Fury by Henry Kuttner and Dark Universe by Daniel F. Galouye: heard good things about both of these.

Fury is an interesting, worthwhile read. You should enjoy the experience. I haven't read Dark Universe, so I'd like to hear your comments on it.

OK. I've just spent an arm and a leg on a signed Robert Heinlein.

A big step, and one which I've ummed and ahhed about for days. (We're talking about £250), but it is still sealed. I've always wanted a signed RAH, and now I have one. Really pleased - or will be until the credit card bill arrives.

Also picked up his excellent Daemonic, Spectre, The Frighteners and Ghost Train for £0.99 each!!!

Oops - I was so excited that I forgot to say that it was Friday. (and bought on a Friday too. )

One of his last that I really liked - more like the old Future History stories.

(Now if I wanted some of them old original 1950's and 1960's signed books, then we're looking at double/triple that (or more!). Don't think I dare do that one... but I would like a signed Asimov Foundation. )

Sort-of also bought today: I found out that, after trying for years to get them in the UK (and even though I didn't think so) Easton Press allow subscriptions to the UK. Dang - if I'd known that years ago....

But the upshot is that I should be now receiving their fantastic leather bound, gilt edged, hardback science fiction books (some of which will be signed!) every month.

But they haven't arrived. Yet.

This is an odd book about Britain conquered by the Aztecs (of the future). It was published in 1993, and is from the UK. Just from the title and the cover, I had to have it even though I know nothing about it or the author.

Got some other stuff (fantasy and non-genre) and I will post them there. The dealer's room seems to have fewer books sellers this year, and fewer used paperbacks

Went to an Alastair Reynolds reading tonight. He was reading a story that will be in Postscripts #4 this summer, a magazine that is being published by PS. It was called Zoema Blue (not sure of the spelling), it was interesting, and he didn't get to finish it before time was up. I was too tired to go to Walter Hunt's reading.

You know I remember trying this one but don't remember finishing it... It did win the BSFA Award for Best Novel of 1993, though.

It looks like it is from 1993 or so. The pages are yellowed, so it definitely isn't new.

While FicusFan is having so much fun, and I'm sitting here being very jealous, I can only report on a small, personal triumph. B&N finally had a copy of "To Say Nothing of the Dog" when I was in yesterday. Yay! I also found a paperback copy of "Prince of Ayodyah" by Ashok Banker. Also a good score. I walked out of there whistling a jaunty tune, I have to say.

For Space Opera type of book, it is really well written and you certainly get attached to the characters. I've read three in her Web Shifters series(I think that there might be a total of five books) and I have also read her Trade Pact trilogy, which started off interestingly enough, but by the third novel tapered off into almost a cliched space opera.

Thanks, priest. I love stories with shapeshifters, so was intrigued when I saw this on some random person's listmania on amazon.

I've read a bit of her last standalone book too - In the Company of Others - nice, fairly hard Sf, - with characters like, say CJ Cherryh or Elizabeth Moon.

Michael Flynn had already signed them, but I will see if I can find him tomorrow to personalize them. I already have the other 2 books in the series.

Archren, yeah for getting To Say Nothing of the Dog , I have the Banker book too, but have not read it yet.

I also like Julie Czerneda. I have read her standalone and the Trade Pact series, and I liked even the last book of the series. I am collecting the Web Shifters but haven't started them yet.

Oh my god what a fool. I was reading Natural History and left it in the room were the Good Books of 2004 (Possible Hugos) panel was. I realized it hours later and had to get a guard to unlock the room. Luckily I found it still on a chair in the room. I don't know if I should feel honored because SF/F people are so honest, or if it is a vote on the lack of appeal of the book. In any event I got it back and won't have to buy another copy. I can't imagine how I left a book behind -- a sign of the end of times.

Owing to a recent windfall, I had arrive today a pile of very expensive but oh-so-worth-it books.

These were:

A HB copy of the US Legends 1; signed by Silverberg, Orson Scott Card, Tad Williams,Terry Pratchett and the two illustrators, Darrell Sweet and Michael Whelan;

And then some lovely Easton Press, leather, hardbacked, gilt-edged books:

Doomsday Book signed by Connie Willis and Pamela Sargent (who did the Intro for the Easton press edition);

Mote in Gods Eye - signed by (and corrected by!) Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle, Charles Sheffield (who did the Intro for the Easton press edition) and Bob Eggleton (who did the Artwork);

Lord Valentine's Castle, signed by Silverberg and the artist;

AND

three volumes of the Hugo Winners, (Volume 1, 2a & 2b) signed by (deep breath) Poul Anderson, Ben Bova, Kelly Frank Freas, Jack Williamson, Frederik Pohl, Jack Vance, Richard Matheson, Damon Knight, Ray Bradbury, Arthur C Clarke, Algis Budry, & Silverberg again... and others.. (16 in total) lots of names there, many sadly missed... and the stories are pretty good too!

A couple of these in the last volumes are book plates, (Arthur C Clarke signed his upside down!) but most are proper signatures, signed in front of the previous owner, who is a longtime collector and seller - I couldn't resist.

I consider myself very very lucky to have these. They are now family heirlooms!

Y'know, I've been getting flyers for those Easton books for a couple of years and my wife keeps thinking they'd be a nice gift for me. I'm thinking I may have to start saying yes for that gift. She got me their version of the ATLAS OF MIDDLE-EARTH last year as an anniversary gift.
