Introduce yourself and say 'Hi'. This is the thread to say 'Hello' in (v4)!

Greetings, one and all! I just very recently published my first novel, and truth be told, was simply looking for ways to promote it when I bumped into this forum. However, unlike most places, this one seems like worth spending my time on - so likely I'll be doing a bit of that in the future. And like Nighteyes above, I also kind of miss the forum thing (moderated a few myself way, way back).

A bit about myself - philosopher by education, analyst (AI-heavy) by trade. A humanist mind. I love scifi and fantasy of all sorts, as long as the stories are good and the systems make sense. Babylon 5, Galactica, Star Trek, Expanse, Witcher, all sorts of Tolkien, Sandman, etc, etc.

I've been developing the world I'm writing about for 30+ years, so in terms of background material I've got plenty. The big thing originally was to create a world where anything was possible and everything made sense - and after a couple of decades, I believe we're there. Getting the time to organise it to sensible stories and writing to fill in the gaps is the big thing (I still have a dayjob I need to do, writing won't pay for my mortgage).

Looking forward to meeting with more of you folks in these pages!

Hi everyone. Name’s Tom.

I had an idea for a story about a dozen years ago that I threw in a drawer a few thousand words in, mainly because it was nothing but a bunch of dudes with swords running around trying to get revenge on each other. For…stuff. Hot garbage.

I came back to it during the pandemic after watching Vikings about forty times, playing some DND with my wife and a few of her friends from college, and (most importantly) reading a bunch of history about the last couple hundred years of the Roman/Persian era in the Middle East.

I’m not one hundred percent sure that what I’ve written is fantasy. There’s no magic at all, no supernatural creatures, no destiny. It’s set in an alternate reality, but it’s mainly a depiction of people (and peoples) dealing with the aftermath of societal collapse. And also running around with swords trying to get revenge on each other for stuff. But now there’s context!

I’m excited to share it with you in the near future.

I love history. The period you're writing about was very exciting. I, for one, am looking forward to learning more about your story.

I've managed to find my way back here after a long hiatus, with heartfelt thanks to @Hobbit for sorting out the technical issues.
