Hi everybody

I am new to this forum and I would like to say hello to everybody.

I am from Oviedo, a city in northern part of Spain (that's why my English is not very good, excuse me) and I am great fan of SF books.

Today I have discovered this forum and also the SF book club and I think it is a wonderful idea so I had to register :) In Spain we have several SF forums and also an Internet SF reading club which has been working for a year and a half, more or less. I like reading books and then sharing my opinion on them with other people. It seems to me that the experience is more complete in this way.

I used to read only those books translated into Spanish, but books prices are quite expensive here (there are very few mass paperback editions) and the availability is quite poor (for instance, most books in Miles Vorkosigan series are out of print nowadays and are almost impossible to find ar reasonable prices in second-hand bookstores). Thus, about a year ago and encouraged by some friends, I decided to try reading in English and the experience has been very good. I've been able to read classics like Cyteen (another one which is very difficult to find in Spain) and many books which are not yet published here (for instance the Night Dawn's trilogy or Axiomatic by Greg EGan) and I am very satisfied. There are not many bookshops in Spain which sellbooks in English, but I buy most of them through the Internet.

I think I will be participating in the SF bookclub from November (BOTM is Ringworld, isn't it?) and I am sure I will enjoy the experience :)

A warm welcome, Odo.

If I didn't know better I'd have thought you were english :p

I have already read it, but it was almost 20 years ago, so I think I'll have to read it again

Ah ha! Found the intro thread! :p

I've been off posting in the lit forum. Great place you got here.

I'm an SF junkie for ages. Prefer the harder stuff and cyberpunk. Will read some fantasy, but have a limited tolerance for elves and such. Love Harry Potter, tho. Have read the first 2 books in GRRMartin's new series, adored them.

My fave authors are RAH, PKD, Sturgeon, Ellison, Silverberg, Spinrad, Gibson, Stephenson, Tepper, Le Guin, Card, Herbert, Haldeman. . .just to rattle off a few, right quick.

Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Hi, new to the board, but not to Sci-Fi/Fantasy forums...

From the UK, Northern England to be semi-exact...

Love watching, reading and enjoying Sci-Fi and Fantasy...

Started with Dr Who in the early 70's, then Star Trek (which remains my one true love), then Star Wars (The Holy Trinity only - thank you VERY much), and have watched more TV shows than I can remember...

Currently enjoying Lost (Season 1), Dead Zone (Season 3, I think), Stargate SG-1 (Season 9), Stargate: Atlantis (Season 2), Carnivale (Season 2)...

Waiting to enjoy: Battlestar Galactica (Season 2) and Threshold (Season 1) - and maybe What If (if it gets made)...

I read a fair few books... Have most of Raymond E Feist's books and looking at getting the WoodBoy comic... I need a new house with a library...

Anything else you wanna know, just ask...

Introducing The Thunder Child

Hi, all

Been a lover of science fiction all my life - starting with the original Star Trek.

First science fiction book I ever read was Triplanetary by E.E. Doc Smith - the Lensman series rocks.

I also publish a science fiction and fantasy webzine called The Thunder Child, and a blog, Science and Sanity.

Looking forward to having some good discussions here.

Caroline

Hey everyone! I was just looking up a book and I found this place! It looked good so I registered. I love fantasy and sci-fi and I look forward to having some good talks with you all.

Hey Guys. No one probably remembers me here, which is probably good. It's been over two years since I last visited, but hey college life is busy. I'm just shocked that I remembered my password. Nice to be back reading the witty posts. :D :D

Hi all,

I just ran upon this place awhile ago while looking up info on an older book I picked up(Dragon and Phoenix-Joanne Bertin) and it looks like heaven to me. I'm an avid reader of anything s/f fantasy and I'm looking forward to getting alot of good information here on new&old authors and whats good enough to spend some $ to get.

Hi, thanks for having me.

My name is Jamie - lifelong sf and fantasy fan. SFFworld member Severn led me down the path to this, her new online home.

Want to know more- just ask ;)

peace
