Welcome Stenevor, and I don't think there's such a thing as being "too old" for fantasy. I am 54 and I discovered the fantasy genre only a few years ago, and have been enjoying whole new realms ever since.
After you finish the Farseer books, be sure to get to the Liveship Traders and Tawny Man books.

Thanks for the reply Eldanuumea. I ordered the first book of Liveship traders yesterday. Reading Gene Wolfes - The devil in a forest to keep me going untill it arrives, one of a hundred or so books I dug out of my loft at the weekend.

As for the age thing, yes you are right. Although I read David Eddings The Redemption of Althalus a while ago and really didnt enjoy it whereas 20 years ago it may have held my attention a bit more. It all seemed far to simplistic and predictable.

i didn't like liveships as much as farseer
and i think with eddings that he doesn't need to develop? i often wonder abotu this, if you suddenly become reallty famous and well known fairly early on in your career, is there any reason to develop your stuff and work harder at getting better?

Hopefully not too late

hello all,
I am relatively new to this forum, but I never actually saw this thread until now... so. hello! My username is what is it is because I love Theodore Sturgeon. My real name is not really important, but if you want another name to call me by: Speaker Of Nonsense. that fits better than my birth name anyway. I am younger than most here, and I live in the U.S. (cali) I think that about sums it up. Oh yeah, I love to read, and though fantasy is my utmost favorite, sci fi is right behind it. And I love other kinds of books as well. (I just finished War and Peace, although I didn't like that at all.) okey day. That was me. I am here. (run and hide if you know whats good for you...) lol :)

Hi i'm Dean and I live in Golborne near warrington in england but i'm originally from manchester. I'm Fourteen and I read SF and F but I mostly play my guitar and play games. Some of the people from the games section may already know me a bit and I would of posted here earlier but I thought that I already had done.......wait I might have done  nope don't think so. Anyway this site is great and i'm gonna check out more threads now because i've mostly been posting in the games section.

:) Hey dean!! Welcome to Sffworld..Again i guess.. since you've already posted here. You play guitar? Lucky. I can't play jack. Though i would like to play drums. Anyway, bienvenidos!

Hi there

I had a look for a `newbie' forum but there doesn't seem to be one, so, well, here I am! :D

I have in the last year or so become an enthusiastic member of another internet forum for my favourite subject, cats (lol) and so I thought I'd look around for a fantasy forum as well, seeing as I am an avid fantasy enthusiast.

A quick bit about myself - my name's Sarah and I live in Western Australia. I have read fantasy extensively but am always on the lookout for more. I write a bit, too, but haven't in a while.

My obsession with fantasy started at about 8 years old with The Dark Is Rising series and then it all just took off from there. Although I had of course been exposed to Narnia, LOTR etc as a child, like the rest of us I'm guessing!!

At the moment I'm re-reading the WOT from A Crown Of Swords onwards because RJ's new book has been released and I need to refresh my memory. My concentration tended to wander a bit in the last three books but I have heard good things about the new one so I'm looking forward to it.

Anyway, that's me! Hiya, looking forward to some good chats!

Hi Sarah,

Welcome to SFFWORLD, I'm sure you'll find plenty to discuss around here, there's a dedicated Jordan forum too!

I've moved your post to the 'newbie' thread.

Welcome once again.

Thanks Juzzza! Yep, I've already made my mark in the RJ forum - hehe that didn't take long did it.

I'm surprised, though, that you don't have a forum specifically for David Eddings. I'll have to do a search for some threads on him :)

Welcome to the board Sophie.

I have a friend named Claire too, small world isn't it (although I'm 23 and live in New York, so I have doubts that its the same one).

just another newbie

Have to say that this whole experience of being to discuss stuff I was once ostrasized for going on about, is quite liberating....!
I have been a sci-fi since I saw Star Wars at 10 and a fantasy fan since reading Stephen Donaldson's Thomas Covenant books at 14. I am now 37, married with 3 children and have started reading again - why now after many years of a few books here and there, I don't know!
I've just started a CS Friedman book "Black sun rising" and so far so good. :)

Hola to everyone

 Well this is interesting.....it seems that I have stumbled across a few old friends that I haven't seen in almost a year. Hi Cad, Hi Morgana and Hi to everyone else. I guess alot has changed - I look for the Cads' old site and saw that it was closed - I'll have to ask Sarah why she didn't keep me up to date. Oh well......anyway, its nice seeing ya'll again and hope I can get back more often.
btw....I was also registered as susie1834.

*cough* hello?

Well I might as well do it now then later...
To everybody that doesn't know me(that means everyboby..), then I am the feared NinjaPenguin from the barren hostile yet beautiful land of Antartica!!
But that is only a part-time job...
Anyway!
I come from Denmark(the country in Europe that has the biggest drinking and smoking population...it really sucks here when i do none of them). And it is very cold at the moment.
I moved to Denmark with my family when I was 8 from the states..been here since.
I really enjoy reading fantasy, but haven't had time lately because of school..bummer..
well..guess that sums it up..

Hello NinjaPenguin - alas, this is my first time to hear of you, however,
I believe I saw your brother in the movie March of the Penguins. Nice guy

Really? So that is what has happened to my longlost brother from my childhood days..he suddenly deserted one day looking for a new career...said he was tired of making wierd noises and funny moves... never understood what he meant with that statement though... The last 27 generations of The Great Pinguna Clan has always been Ninja or Samurai or Shinigami or Shinobi...Is there more to the world than that? anyway...The weather is really cold here...I can't stop loving it!
