27 generations? It all makes since now...when he stated in one of our many conversations "this is a new generation". I did notice that he has a way of moving very silently. A tribute to your family. Just to let you know that your brother has adapted to our weather here is Texas. He really looks good with a tan.

well taht is good to hear that he is alive and well...he's not always that....he once tried swimming as far down as he could...he barely survived... maybe he doesn't like the cold....

anyway..i think that we might have scared the newbies away from this thread.....

Just for the record, this isn't a chat thread - those are found in the Funzone :)

Hi, my name is Tim Stilwell. I live in Lawrence Kansas and I'm a Freshmen at the University of Kansas. I'm hoping to obtain a phd in Philosophy like my father. Then I want to move to Japan and have lots of sex with japanese chicks like my father. I'm not very intelligent as of now but I'm constantly gaining knowledge every day through reading and college. I have a ton of books, most of which I got for free by dumpster diving at Hastings and Half Price Books.

I may as well make this official...

Hi, I'm Tal, I'm from Brisbane and I'm an avid reader of fantasy.

My favourite author is Raymond E. Feist (hence the nickname), closely followed by Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams. Right now I'm re-reading the complete works of Feist, and afterwards I'll be moving onto Robin Hobb, Trudi Canavan, some more Pratchett (there are quite a lot, after all), and then GRRM and Robert Jordan.

Apart from reading, I like tech stuff (mostly hardware, but like a bit of coding here and there), I'm a pretty good shot at archery, I like comedy movies (can't stand bloody dramas) in particular Monty Python and anything that involves any of the Pythons (John Cleese being my favourite). I like playing games, in particular RTS's (RoN, AoE, (M, R):TW - hate AoM) and RPG's (Final Fantasy, and similar ones) I also like writing things in brackets :D

So, that's pretty much all about me. Except that I forgot to mention my music tastes - I like most genres (except recent pop really) but prefer older metal bands, and 60s/70s R&B. My favourite metal bands are Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and Slayer.

Is that enough? :p

Greetings from my planet

Hello just joined the forum. I love sci-fi and have been looking to expand my horizons beyond my usual so thought I'd have a look on here to see what people were recommending.

Infact, upon recommedation I've just ordered a 2nd hand copy of Pandora's Star by Hamilton.

I've read quite a lot of sci-fi over the last couple o years mainly Larry Niven, Iain M Banks, Asimov, Heinlen, Kurt Vonnegut, Greg Bear, David Brin.

Anyway, hello.

[MOD EDIT: Moved from the Sf Forum to where most say 'Hi'. Hobbit]

Hiya :D

Hey forum-ers. My name is Haneul Cho, I'm sixteen and I'm extremely interested in the arts. I love to read and write. I've written several fantasy novels as a younger teen (I think everyone goes through that Lord of the Rings phase, no?) but I've found that I enjoy writing comedy/romance/drama the most. I found this forum via Google because I wanted someplace where I could share my interests in writing, receive feedback, and comment on others' works. I hope to become familiar around here and to have a lot of fun!

Some of my favorites:
Anthem and The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand
The Good Earth - Pearl S. Buck
All publishes by Dan Brown
Memoirs of a Geisha - Arthur Brown
Bridget Jones' Series and Olivia Joules - Helen Fielding
About a Boy - Nick Hornby
Most books by Jennifer Crusie
LOTR Trilogy, including The Hobbit by JRR Tolkein
Odd Thomas - Dean Koontz
Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling
Artemis Fowl Series - Eoin Colfer
Girl With a Pearl Earring - Tracy Chevalier
Timeline - Michael Crighton
i,Robot - Isaac Asimov

As you can see, I mostly read books which I know are from movies. This is because I'm a major movie person and when I see a movie I like, I tend to find the book and try to read it. No doubt that the book usually turns out to be much better than the movies (especially in the case of Arthur Golden's novel). But in any case, I'm always looking to expand my list.

Cheers!

:D :D Hello. :D I drop of love. I'm pretty new here. My sci fi/fant intrest include the works of: Stephen King, Stan Lee, J.K. Rowling and L. Ron Huberd.

Hello everyone.
I'm not exactly brand spanking new to this forum but I haven't really introduced myself..

I do like S/F, Fantasy and Horror (tho i'm mainly in a Fantasy mood) My fave authors are amongst others...
Tolkien, Rowling, Nix, Stephen King, Koontz
I probably don't keep up with books as much most of you, especially considering that I work in a library.
I like all kinds of films but if I had to pick a top five right now they'd be..
LOTR (i'm counting em as one), Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, The Fisher King and Highlander. I'll probably change my mind as soon as I've posted this but it gives you an idea.

I'm pretty much uninformed. I am, however eager to learn.

ohh you are soo lucky to work in a libray i wish i did. or in a bookstore. welcome everyone :)

G'Day, just joined the forum today so thought I better say hi ;)

I read mainly in the fantasy genre, in which I share my favourite with many, that being ASoIaF by GRRM.

Greetings

First, I wanted to say hello to everyone at this forum. I happened upon your website a day or two ago by chance, and I've been checking in on it occasionally since. I decided to register and begin posting within your community tonight.

Second, I would like to introduce myself. I'm a writer (why would I be here, right?), I have been writing for many years. I've never been able to complete any works, for one reason or another, but I have had countless practice at technique and style with my many dismal failures.

The reason I'm posting here is that I don't have much of a community, especially for this type of thing. My wife and I have only lived in this town a little over a year and I've made all of one friend since coming here, and outside of my wife and neighbor, I really don't know anyone that I can look to for support.

I'm currently writing a story that I want to see completed. I've written about 20k words already, and I feel that this may be the one that I see through to the end. But I have the fears that, without a large enough circle of support, I may end up abandoning it, as I have the countless dozens of projects over the years.

Well, that's really all I wanted to say. Good eve', all. I look forward to reading more on your forums in the weeks and months to come.
