Self Pity - DH Lawrence

I never saw a wild thing
sorry for itself.
A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough
without ever having felt sorry for itself.

Beautiful. Beautiful. Beautiful.

Oh, I'm katie, by the way.

Hi everyone. I am glad to find this site and look forward to participating in the discussion.

I am 41 years old. I grew up in Los Angeles. I have been living in Dayton, OH for the past 12 years or so. I manage a symphony orchestra (the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra). I was an English major in college (University of Chicago). I have done a little bit of writing, purely for my own amusement.

For the past 10 years or so I have been reading primarily science fiction and fantasy. I am a site administrator at the internet book list and I moderate several forums at the internet book database of fiction. I read lots (I have rated over a thousand books at each site).

My favorite authors at the moment are Steven Erikson and Cordwainer Smith.

hi clong!!!

Hi clong!!!!

you ever read any Terry Brooks, Philip Pullman, David Almond? These are the authors I love the most at the moment.

Katie

Hi katie!!!

I enjoyed Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy (I thought the first book was great, and the other two good). I haven't yet read any Terry Brooks or David Almond.

I think you've got the wrong forum.....

Nah, this place really is fantastic once you get discussing. A lot of well-read individuals and published authors ;)

Enjoy yourself :)

I'm new. Came here just to see what's interesting in modern SF and fantasy lit these days. I haven't read a whole lot - usually I pick up a book after a friend's recommendation, and if I like it, I'll try and hunt down other stuff by the same author. Current favs include: Lovecraft, Vance, and George RR Martin. I need to read more, I know... :o

Hi,

I've been posting in the SF forum for a while now but never thought to introduce myself officially. I'm 30 and have been living in Devon in the UK for 3 years now, having moved down from London just before my first daughter was born.

I read quite a bit though recently can't seem to tear myself away from sci-fi (though I bought my first fantasy book in 15 years, Elric, the other day ;) ). My favourite books include Roadside Picnic (the Strugatskys), The Fifth Head of Cerberus (Gene Wolf) and The Left Hand of Darkness (Le Guin).

I am currently revising for a professional exam in architecture; the final few months (hopefully) of what has been 11 years of studying on and off!

I've already met some great people here but hello to all the rest of you :)
