July/August 2016 Short Story Contest

I really feel like I need to turn what meager writing energies I have to the anthology. Work has pretty much annihilated my creative drive these past couple months so no promises.

I wish I could claim the 'work' excuse, but I can't. My motivation is just gone....I have been busy with some family stuff, but..... :( :( :(

My writing buddy is like that. For the past 7 years, he has emailed me excellent story ideas about once a month, sometimes more. He never writes them. Like you, once it is out of his system, it's done.

I'm an outliner. I outline everything. Sometimes all the way down to the scene (like @RedMage), but more often all I do is an overall story arc and then a scene list and go from there. But before I write a story, I definitely have to have an end point in mind that I want my characters to arrive at. If I don't have that end point, it turns into the NEVER ENDING STORY.

I've gotten into a rather annoying habit of writing the beginning and the end of my stories lately, and then struggling to get on and write the middle...
They say it's the journey that counts, but it's also the hardest work. :P

Working through the lists of pro and semipro fiction magazines and websites on the Submissions Grinder: http://thegrinder.diabolicalplots.com
Oh wow that's a cool website, cheers for that; I had no idea such a thing existed. No wonder I got a rejection from clarkesworld, look at all the rejections they've had! And all the other magazines for that matter, it's a wonder anything ever even gets published!

There's also Duotrope, but it is a paid service.

Does anyone know if Submittable allows you to track pieces and markets, or just pieces? I have an account, but I don't use it often (other than to submit). Anyway, you can join us over in the Write One, Submit One thread and commiserate with all of us getting those rejections.

@JonLaidlow You still want to plan a story this theme?

Cause I tossed it around the whole drive home.... #$#%#.

This is the story I'll be working on today. The only hint I'm giving is that my weather tie in is wind....sort of. I went with a wind instrument that affects weather, among other things. :)

I feel like the quality has dropped off
You know, I have (apparently) given up on quality. My main focus right now is to finish stuff. If I don't, then it doesn't really matter how good the writing is. Besides, it is all so subjective. I don't mean to abandon your drive to write well, but just not to sweat it so much and just finish the damn story. :)

Oh Good! A Tuba Story!
