Hi,

I just finished the book of words trilogy and I must say its left me wanting more.

So I was wondering if JV's new series continued on from the book of words? I know it's set in the same world with different characters but I was wondering if there is any mention of the events on Bow in the new series?

Well I've only read the first in her new series, but there was no mention of the events of the Book of Words. It's still well worth reading and I also reccomend The Barbed Coil.

it is set in the same world - north of Bren(i think that's the cities name) and so far 1 charater from the book of Words is present.

new to this forum malarky - hope thats the correct way to mention a spoiler - if indeed it is one in the first place!!

which character would that be? :p
 
One would hope that character would be Tavalisk as he was one of the best two things about BoW, the other being Baralis.

BoW was absolutely run of the except for how colorfully naughty the bad guys were. That made every page of that series excellent.


Oh, I forgot. Bodger and Grift were awfully excellent, also. They had me rolling now and again.

I wish there was more. Baralis could still be alive you know? Crope took the body away. Maybe he wasn't dead.

BAH...bumbling idiot today. Leaving word out and then quoting myself rather than editing.......

I guess he could, yes. I think I'd rather he be down for the count, though. Wouldn't surprise me if both of them made a reappearance at some time to continue their little battle. That would be an interesting one.

Then again, it also wouldn't surprise me to see them both working together towards some similar end. That would also be something to see given their past relationship.
 
I think it's pretty obvious from Fortress of Grey Ice which of the characters are the same!:)

So it's Tavalisk thats in it? that means the new series cant be set to far away frin BoW. What happens to bren? the knights? they must be still in it?

Stay faaaaaar away from the Barbed Coil...didn't like it at all.


Go for Cavern of ... Ice (forgot if it was black or grey) instead...much better.

its been years since i read the book of words and can't remember
Travalisks' charater so not sure if he is in the new series - there is however another charter in book one and another introduced in book 2 - SPOILERS - Baralis in book 1 and then Crope turns up in book 2.
 
I liked this series I can't wait for the next one though it has been a while since I read them - all I remember off the top of my head is ice - walking on ice kewl Elf like guys and a city :)

Jones really likes torturing her characters doesn't she? Poor Melliandra.

(What's with that name BTW, I think I've read 4 series with that name or similiar. Weis's Mistress of Dragons, Carey's Kushiel's trilogy, Martin's ASOIAF, and now this one)?

Anyway, I really liked Tawl and Nabber. I felt that Tawl was the main character in the trilogy, not Jack. I would liked to see more of Tawl and the Knights of Valdis. My favorite scenes were in Book 3-Master and Fool when Tawl was being chased by Skaythe and Tawl went over the water fall. Plus, the scenes with Maybor in the mountains fighting the cold. You could really feel how cold it was. (living in a cold climate myself, I could definitely relate)

Jones did a great job with Maybor and Baralis. I loved how they kept trying to kill each other and not succeeding.

And as others have said, Tavalisk is a great character. At the end of Book of Words, Tawl is going after him, I would like to see that play out.

I haven't read her next trilogy yet, but I plan to. I do have the first book sitting on the shelves waiting to be read.
 
YOU'RE RIGHT!!!!!! I can't believe I did that!

Bodger and Grift are absolutely hilarious. I liked the way that Jones kept them involved in the main story. I wonder if those guys get any action?;)

I'm not sure, I felt worse for Jack.

Awesome series though, one of those series you can read over and over through the years.
