I was thinking of watching the first film, Train to Busan, later this week.

On the advice of younger Hobbit, watched Upgrade. (2018). Not particularly deep but was better than many similar movies. Sort've like The Six Million Dollar Man revamped for contemporary generation.

Oh ok. Like the way Pearl Harbor, Dunkirk and other war movies rewrite history, you mean? Incidentally, as I'm sure you already know, if you want to see the perfect war movie, Downfall (Der Untergang) is your man.

Der Untergang happens to be on my rewatch shortlist. That was a good movie. (I intend to read the second part of Volker Ulrich's Hitler biography soon in English translation. It's been sitting on my history shelf since last year.)

Has anyone watched the 12-part CNN series (imaginatively titled) The Movies? Very much recommended. Can't feature every movie of course, but they concentrate on the important ones, going from the very first "talkie" (hilarious article in newspaper of the time: "talkies just a fad, say experts"!) right up to today, with commentary and contribution from actors, screenwriters, directors and producers. A great potted history of cinema and a good way to put in what amounts to about ten hours of watching time total.

Yes, very good. Learned some very interesting things from them.

I saw the new Jumanji movie...because it was free. I actually kind of liked the first remake (sorry), mildly funny and cute in a harmless way, with a few feel good bits. This one features the Rock and one of the other characters doing some annoying accents because of different body switches. Don't underestimate how annoying this is lol. The movie causes further annoyance with extremely forced "humor" at the body switching and old people not understanding they are in Jumanji. For example, the grandad character played by Danny Devito and his buddy can't understand that they are "in a video game" and say things like "why didn't someone tell me" after being told literally two dozen times. After some cringy bits along these lines, the movie settles in and for the most part the sequel is of the character and nature of the first remake, and if you found that suitable to see with your kids, this one will be as well. Just expect a bit more cringy bits, mostly in minutes 15-45.

You are allowed.... ! I thought the first remake was OK, though I still think it didn't need to be a 'Jumanji' movie. Haven't been too bothered to watch the sequel, though on a wet Wednesday with nothing else to do/watch, I might try it. Thanks for the update, Art.

I liked the remake too (I presume we're talking about the Rock, Karen Gillan, Jack Black one here not Zathuria which I also liked a lot more than most people seemed to).
