Last Movie You Watched - 2020

I thought it would be about African-American music, but it turned out to be all about America's obsession with theistic metaphysics. Revolting.

Sad. Got moderately good reviews.
Particularly sad if it's worse that Cars 3, The Good Dinosaur or Onward.

After all the foofera about Disney writing off Alan Dean Foster and other authors, how do youse feel about watching the Disney channel?

I used bittorrent and a good VPN. ;)

The last two were Midnight Sky and WW84. Both were mediocre at best. The former was disappointing as I had some hopes it would be good. The latter was pretty bad, imo - it really felt like a rushed sequel.

For this evening:

Shadow in the Cloud Expecting it to be silly, but hey.

Edit: Yep - silly it was, but I quite liked it anyway.

One of the guys in work recommended Shadow in the Cloud last week. I'll check it out.

Saw a couple of movies worth watching over Christmas, but only 4 of any note.

Upload
Orbiter 9 (a Spanish movie with Subtitles).
Cargo (the Zombie one).
Wheelman. (Not my usual movie, but this was a very good film.)

My best friend of my teens and 20s died last week after a long and painful condition bravely endured~For far too many years. With that in mind I gave Soul another chance and found it to be a very good YA film.... but then again I also liked UP

Thank you mffan, we kept in touch via phone calls almost to the end. For the last few months, his wife would use a speakerphone and I would retell old stories of the dumb things that we got up to in these years of idiocy. She said that those weekly calls were among the very few things that would get a smile and even a rare laugh from him this last stage. Getting into the last phase of our lives means this sort of event must become a more sadly frequent part of life... we moved physically far apart in our 30s which meant our friendship underwent a subtle shift, but you only get one first best friend.

Finally got around to watching Ad Astra starring Brad Pitt. Looks lovely (really wants to be 2001), but the script is overambitious. It's all really about Daddy issues, with a bit of Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now thrown in.

Seems determined to be a space movie for people who don't watch such movies.

Yeah: it did look great. The critics seem to like it but it is pretentious enough for them to do so, I think.

I must admit that the ending WAS dreadful, and there's some very dodgy science that even I noticed (as a non-scientist) was just wrong. But it did imagine some ideas that I liked- the Moon base and the Mars outposts for example I could see like that, although again it's all rather 2001 in that respect. Just a shame that there's clearly been a lot of money being spent on a movie that is so disappointing.

Speaking of utter tosh :)

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013) Quite fun though, imho.

Take it from me that is the BETTER of the Hansel and Gretel movies made in 2013 (there were I think three) If you want REAL s**t find the one with Booboo Stewart in. If nothing else for the moment Eric Roberts nearly corpses as he realises the director has NO idea what he's doing.
