Last Movie You Watched 2026

An interesting 1996 Argentine piece, based on a short story. The Buenos Aires Underground becomes
topologically infinite
after being expanded and a train becomes lost.

Available on youtube with English subtitles:

John Carpenter's THE THING on Arrow UK blu .

For around the fifth time and still love it .
Practical special effects and it pays due homage to " The Thing from Another World " .

This is arguably Carpenter , Cundey ( dop ) and Bottin ( sfx ) at the top of their game .

And some classic lines to relieve the tension :

" You gotta be BLANK kidding me ! "

" I know you guys are having a hard time but there's no way I'm spending all winter tied to this BLANK couch ! "

" So what are we gonna do now ? " " Let's just sit here and wait " comes the reply .

And whilst we're on old movies, just watched Forbidden Planet (again!) but now in in 4K. Not a startling difference between that and the Bluray, but still one of my favourite movies of all time. Works on many levels, of course.

My wife is in Europe on holiday and I'm bacheloring for a month. So I'm watching all the films and shows my wife hates, or just wouldn't watch in a pink fit. Last night I settled in and watched the last two Spider-man films. Both very good.

Just watched Spider-man: Across the spiderverse. Quite amazing. Seamlessly flows between animation styles so fluidly and always in service of the story. It’s truly a remarkable work of art. Really looking forward to the third one.

I have yet to see Steinfeld in something where I wasn't impressed. True Grit works because she shows the character's strength and feistiness. Bumblebee is a very good faux-'80s s.f./Transformers movie, the charm of which rests on her shoulders. And those were mainly when she was a kid. She could become a mainstay over the next decade.
I just noticed she's the voice of spider-Gwen in Across the spider-verse. Loved her in Hawkeye too. I didn't realise that was her in True Grit.

Last night's movie was A Promising Young Woman. It's a pretty awesome thriller from beginning to end. The end is both a shocker and extremely satisfying in its own way. I'm not going to spoil it but the film had a few good surprises that I really should have seen coming. Very skilfully constructed film. Tonight I think I'll watch The Substance.

Re-watched "Warcraft" again. I still like the movie. Never cared for the game.

There is a Warcraft 2 movie in the works for 2028. It has a one hell of a cast too. Henry Cavill, Sean Bean, Pierce Brosnan, Charlie Hunnam, Denzel Washington, Ron Perlman, Cate Blanchett, Ralph Fiennes, Idris Elba, Milla Jovovich, Elijah Wood & Josh Brolin.

FRIDAY THE 13 th ( Sean Cunningham ) on UK blu ( part of a box containing 7 sequels to this first film from 1980 )

While since I'd seen it . Released during the peak years of the slasher genre .

THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN ( Val Guest ) on UK blu from Hammer .

I'm a huge Hammer fan so this was a must buy for me .

The set is packed full of commentaries and other extras , looking forward to working through them .

I've been on a Clive Barker kick this year. So far I've watched:

Hellraiser (1987)
Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988)
Candyman (1992)
Nightbreed (1990)
Lord of Illusions (1995)

I think I'm done with Barker movies now. IMO the Hellraiser franchise really went downhill after Hellraiser 2. I'm moving on to John Carpenter. I've got these queued up:

In the Mouth of Madness (1994) - IMO the best Lovecraft movie even though it is not based on any single story
Halloween (1978)
The Fog (1980)
The Thing (1982)
Christine (1983)
They Live (1988) -
Not really horror but I love it
Vampires (1998)

I'll catch the occasional newer movie on Shudder.

On Friday night friends came over and we all watched Dune Parts 1 and 2, in prep for part 3 coming next month. I'd not seem them since they first hit the cinema. I remember being blown away by them then, and we were all super impressed with them, especially back to back, even just watching at home. Made me wish I had fully immersive surround sound and a much bigger screen.

Love The Thing - probably in my top 10 all time movies.

Just realised that I haven't seen In The Mouth of Madness, (Must look for it!) but the rest IMO are great.

Love The Fog - might make that a Halloween rewatch this year. And The Thing.... another one that got slated when it came out but since has developed a real cult following. I have a soft spot for the original, both black and white and colorised, but I like 1950's SF films. I actually thought the recent version was OK after watching it back to back with the John Carpenter version.

Can't believe I haven't seen In The Mouth of Madness before! Amazing cast, supremely weird script. Not sure why I haven't seen it before, but now glad I did. Reminds me very much of From Beyond/Re-Animator.

I saw it when it was fairly new and didn't get it. Now that my horizons have been broadened, I need to try it again.
