Oh c'mon, we all know that Jordan is just one of those authors that flies in the face of what Qin has come to adopt as his value system. The problem of course is that he still cannot understand why he likes WoT when he compares it with everything being taught by his teacher and it's confounding him and sending him into denial. Poor soul. Give him a jelly baby it might make him feel better.

The above is not an intelligent reply on Jon's behalf to my statements Fitz; it's a complete disregard for the statements posted. Jon did not bother to discuss the issues I brought up. Instead, he simply insulted me. If Jon's supposed replies to my statements are good enough to match your standards for a retort in a discussion, then I suggest you reconsider your standards.

When you suggest that s'one's comments aren't intelligent, and two other people suggest his comments were intelligent, what makes you think that you are better qualified than us to judge who is right. Answer = arrogance. Grow up, Qin. As FF says - opinions may differ. God forbid, you may even be.....wrong. (gasp, shock horror)

A difference in opinion is acceptable, but poorly argued biases for or against a particular issue are not. How often does a rabid football fan argue against his/her most beloved team? The appropriate answer is: "Very rarely." Perhaps your modus operandi is one of apathy, but not mine.

If you're not going to see the forest for the trees, then I will. They're there, you just have to want to see them. But some people, if they don't know, you can't tell them. Call it arrogance if you wish, call it self-confidence; it doesn't make a difference to me.

Speaking of masters of modern fantasy, there was an anthology released two years ago edited by Robert Silverberg titled Legends. It was published by TOR and contained short stories by Stephen King (Dark Tower Saga), Terry Goodkind (Sword of Truth), Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time), George RR Martin (A Song of Ice & Fire), Ursula K. Le Guin (Earthsea), Anne McCaffrey (Pern), Raymond E. Feist (Riftwar), Terry Pratchett (Discworld), Orson Scott Card (Alvin Maker), Robert Silverberg (Majipoor), and Tad Williams (Memory, Sorrow, & Thorn), all of which wrote in the respective series that made them masters.

Many of you may ask why Terry wasn't included in that list above? Surely he is a master of fantasy and belongs there. Terry actually was offered the chance to be in Legends but he felt that since he began at Del Rey and that Del Rey is the home and forever shall be of the Shannara series, he couldn't take it to TOR. So he remained out of the project.

That is about to change. Del Rey Books has recently acquired the Rights to do the second Legends anthology, at the moment untitled (but will probably remain Legends). The great news about this is that Terry has no qualms writing a Shannara novella for this second project, since it will be published by Del Rey! So, in 2003, we should see the publication of a true novella set in the Four Lands. What the subject will be, however, is still undetermined, but as fans can we see the possibility of a short story centered around Allanon, Walker Boh, or Garet Jax? Hmmm, could be.

For those of you who are curious as to who will accompany Terry in Legends II, all will be back from the first Legends with the exception of Stephen King and Terry Goodkind. To fill those places there will be Terry, Neil Gaiman, and Robin Hobb! More on this as it becomes available!

Ok...I quite liked the original Legends novel (though still amused by McCaffrey's insistance that Pern is SF and then placing in a 'Fantasy' anthology rather than the SF version, New Horizons - she had a 'Ship' story in there instead)

I also think a book using 'new' authors is a good idea - but doubt it would get the sales needed to make the book a viable option.

I've three queries here:

Tad Williams has a new book - Shadowmarch believe is the title - and...it's only on the internet only. Is there a logical reason to explain this?

And where has Terry Brooks been? The last I heard, he wrote the novelazation for The Phantom Menace. What's he been up to since then?

Also: months and months ago I heard rumors of a possible fourth Myst book being published. Have there been any developments on this front?

I suggest you head over to http://www.shadowmarch.com/about.asp and check out Tad's own description for why he isn't publishing Shadowmarch as a book.

Terry Brooks has written two more Shannara books since he wrote the Phantom Menace, both of which I consider to be very lightweight. The only work of note Terry has done in recent years in my mind is his Word and Void series.

Not sure about Myst though...

Does the Jordan bashing ever disappear? Even on a topic about Legends II, clearly a topic that is not about Jordan's ability to write?

Qin, I agree that many of Jordan's books could be compressed, but I do not feel that you can deny his ability as a writer. I also believe that JohnH already responded very ARTICULATELY to your endless whining about Jordan's faults, so I have no need to express any further refutals to your arguments.
Do you perchance have anger management problems?
