Quickly iterated to version 4 of "Jewels and Rooks". I save As with an incremented number if deleting or rewriting in any significant way.
Realised two extra storylines I wanted.
Now after deletions and re-writes up to nearly 58K words. About two weeks since I started. Yesterday I wrote a fairly complete summary and updated the cast list.
I've now 8 books of "names", one printout and about half a dozen lists saved from Web as well as book marked. Sometimes I do re-use a name if it's sole person with it in that book of series and not confusing. Characters with same name is seriously more confusing in fiction than real life (You'd not believe how many Tony Mary, Michael Paul Bridget Patrick we have here). Esp. tricky in text only novels rather than graphic/animated/movie etc.

Slid into another chapter, introduced a main child character and his family. I've added 500 words so far and trimmed the fat from a few scenes.

Some reason I decided to add a slightly comedic sequence where my character daydreams he's aboard a space vessel going to an unknown planet when in reality he's just sitting in the car with his parents as they move to a new city.

A quick edit of a completed, but early, draft of a short novel set in a place and future sufficiently distant to resemble the Dickensian past. Morbid, and fundamentalist intensifications of Enlightenment values and the suppression of faiths and fictions. A melodrama, with storms and young love and predatory villains. Templated to some degree on Italo Calvino's libretto for Luciano Berio's "opera" Un Re In Ascolto and taking up the theme of epistemic angst - of knowing that one is denied the information one needs to understand what is going on. Underpinned, also, by the stations of the cross.

Now for a rewrite, which I hope will be a moderately light one, and then the first beta read (or is that alpha read - I get confused about that stuff. Anyway, eyeballs on it).

No writing today. The folks we're ousesitting for have a cabin an hour's drive away where they spend their summers. But some days, and today is one of them, they come into town for a bit of a break. So I went shopping and had a capucino at a neat bookstore/cafe.

But I did turn my first-mate character into a woman.

Did 1500 words on the Amnesiac -- now temporarily calling himself "Farouche" after the hero of a romantic legend turned into an opera. Somebody recognized him in a crowded public square and was frightened enough to run away. Mystery deepens. I'm fascinated to find out who he is and what happened to his memories. (Starting to think the amnesia might be self-inflicted. We'll see.)

Did another 500 words today, concept art, and removed a chapter, which to my surprise, didn't distort the book like I thought. I expect to be finished with this in its entirety by Friday and start on Book II or move to a fantasy story I'm developing sometime next week.

Another 1300 words on Farouche the amnesiac today. Woke up from my afternoon nap with a way to work in a new character and a new plot direction that weaves nicely into what I've already got going.

And 1600 words today, culminating in the classic out-of-the-darkness blow to the back of the head from a mysterious assailant.
