Didn't feel much like writing today. Might have some kind of virus. But I completed the current plot sequence with a little over a thousand words. Time to switch gears and find out something about the amnesiac's forgotten past.

Hope you feel better soon.

Quickly iterated to version 4 of "Jewels and Rooks".
Now proofed and edited and being read by my Beta Reader. About 70 thousand words. I've started an outline for a Sequel (#14 in series) and realised I needed to make something explicit at end of penultimate chapter. May update my Beta reader if she hasn't finished it by tomorrow. #14 is provisionally called "Carmán's Legacy". In legend, Carmán was a witch (Fay or human?) from Athens that attacked the Tuath Dé in was was later Ireland. She was killed but her three sons escaped. Now over 2,600 years later, what are they up to? Fay Security Investigators (Aés Sidhe specifically) belatedly remember about them* and go to see what Langley & GCHQ have.

Actually taking a break from writing now.

(*They are running out of threats, it is the 14th book!).

Sat in the park for a little while and dreamed up the backstory for my amnesiac characters. It's got war (although in the low-intensity mode of Renaissance Italian city states with their unreliable mercenary armies), a murderous cult, an insurrection and a massacre. He's a twin and one of them was involved in the cult, but he doesn't know if that was him or his brother. And neither do I. Yet.

Did 500 words to bridge from recent action to the next plot sequence. Getting interesting.

And we're off in the new plot sequence, with 1200 words today. Tomorrow, the caravan departs for the wilderness. Will one of the guards my protag has been training be an assassin waiting for his moment? I don't know. In the meantime, he has acquired a book that may shed light on his darkened past.

Thicken, plot, thicken!

Another thousand words. Last night the amnesiac read about the deep dark nasty thing apparently in his past. Next we'll discover the details of what that was.

Been feeling like nothing is happening for the past few weeks .... and it kind-of hasn't with the exception of writing a few poems and doing some reading. I think this is typical follow-on after publishing my latest two collections early this month....that Whew! Slack time. ...

I just went through my completed and in-progress poems (left over from the collections and new ones, etc.) and moved about a hundred or so (probably not quite that many...but close) to the "Retired" folder.

This leaves the ones I still feel are 'worthy' in the completed and in-progress state and it feels like a bit of 'letting go' and a bit of progress. Now I need to finish some of the in-progress ones, do some marketing/submitting of the truly worthy and get this wagon moving again! The End of the Year is Right Around the Corner!!!! :D :D :D

Eight hundreds words today on what increasingly feels like a novel. Recounted the backstory of the Drieff Massacre, in which my amnesiac character may or may not have been a perpetrator.

Might try this thread. For once I have actually done some work on the big ole epic fantasy novel that I abandoned after completing it. Not a lot of work but still... I just read every chapter and wrote a brief description of it, how it ended, revision notes into a spreadsheet. Then I wrote a big synopsis so I could fix the whole thing in my head. Next step is to do all the revisions I've written down...

Abandoned "Carmán's Legacy" last night at about 10,000 words. Not enough fiction & fantasy in arms sales to all sides in the M.E. by the same makers and dealers. Also readers might wonder at the morality of the Aés Sidhe (Fay) investigators only being interested in what Carmán's sons are up to and taking no action about the injustices and immorality of it all.
I'll recycle most of it into other stories, but without the arms dealers.

Added another 1250 words to the amnesiac novella. Another attempt on the protag's life. I'm starting to get an inkling of why someone wants him dead. It's often like this: backstory occurs to me as I'm moving the action forward.

Finally finished pencilling a 6 page strip last night and spent the evening scanning it in a cleaning it up. Now the tedious work of colouring the bugger.

Next up on the drawing table (while I'm colouring and lettering that one on the computer) are some character designs for a 32 page standalone superhero comic I'm doing with a writer. This will be the first time I've worked on anything quite so long and I need to know what the characters look like, and dress like from the get go. Quite often I have no idea, when I start my final drawings, what new characters look like. I often have to go back and retrofit earlier panels as the character evolves on the page. Even on one or two page strips.

Second chapter in Zoology: Part Two, really found it tough, knew what I needed to say, found it hard to make it feel spontaneous...
