Oh man, this is going to be the month to put a dent in my backlog of books to read. Just reading these posts has reminded me of at least 2 mores books I want to read. For this month, I plan to read...

The Illearth War by Donaldson
Dreamcatcher by King
Well, I'll stop there and see if I actually make it that far.

I just started reading Zelazny's first Amber book. I probably won't get much more than that, and maybe the second book, finished this month. I picked up some old copies of the first four (two books of two) at a booksale earlier this year. How many are there total?

Excellent excellent book... any plans to read the sequal Claudius The God?

I do now I know it exists! "I, Claudius" was wonderfully rich, though "Count Belisarius" isn't matching the other's strengths so far.

There are five books in the first series and then five in the (less highly regarded) second series.
It seems odd that your books contain two each. perhaps one of them (volume 2) contains three books.

Just finished Zelazny's Amber Chronicles (first 5).
Now on The Book of the New Sun by that wolfey guy, And The Gardens of the Moon by Erikson.
Read about 100 pages of the Fifth Sorceress and just had to put it down...started getting Goodkind flashbacks

Torn between Pratchett's "The Amazing Maurice And His Educated Rodents", "The Hogfather" (also by Pratchett and a very nifty December read ) and Stephen Erikson's "Gardens Of The Moon" (for the uh... 10th time?). I'll read all, I just can't decide which to start with...

Finished Terri Windling's The Wood Wife last night. Read it on the basis of comments found in these forums and was greatly surprised and pleased to find it describing this part of the world. Windling merits all the rave reviews I saw. She develops a mythos as true and faithful to the Sonoran desert as I can imagine, reminding me again of why I love fantasy. If you are stuck for something to read, read this.

Finished off Elminster in Hell last night. The last 100 pages weren't too bad since they actually had more long running recollections. Unless you're a die hard 'Realms reader, I'd definitely avoid this one! I wonder if this was the last book of Ed Greenwood's contract or something...has the same sort of feel that a few music bands have had for their "I'm getting the &$^#$& out of this contract" last project.

I decided to re-read The Two Towers in preperation for seeing the film. After that, I'll probably tackle the January selection for the Book Club.

I just finished reading "Child of Prophecy" by Juliet Marillier. I actually read the entire series, and I have to say I quite enjoyed it. For those of you who liked Marion Zimmer Bradley's Avalon series, you should definately check out these books.

Hey-

First of, Hi all, I'm brand new to the forum.

What am I reading you ask?

I'm currently about to finish up book four in R.A. Salvatore's Canticle Quintet. This is my first salvatore book and my first foray into the forgotten realms universe. I'm sure I'll read some more salvatore, and it definitely is a page turner, but I've read better. ad&d and forgotten realms just don't turn me on that much I guess. But I tried, eh?

I don't know what to get into next. It's a toss up between Terry Goodkind's sword of truth series, Phillip Pullmans his dark materials, or my old favorites, margaret weis and tracy hickman's dragon's of... series. The first books I ever read were the death gate cycle, so they hold a special place in my literary heart.

Just finished Hobb's 'Assassin's Apprentice'. To start with this was a lot like the Liveship Traders, in that not a lot HaPPENED, but it pulled you in cos Hobb is so skilled at making trivia feel important, through the character's eyes. (Make sense?). But towards the end.......WOW...........honestly, haven't had a series grip me like that since aSoIaF.........flying through the second one already

Just finished Gaiman's American Gods and Bujold's The Curse of Chalion while still, after god knows how many tries, chewing on ASH !!! Why can't I get into that book?? Maybe 'cause I like my fantasy to contain magic and sorcerers and stuff and this doesn't. It's very well written but it's like banging my head against a brick wall, where this book could be one of its bricks due of its size, because I can't get through. It's damn frustrating!
I think I'll wash down that ash with a beer instead. Or a book about beermaking.

Finished The Hammer of the Sun. The Winter of the World (the original trilogy at least) was pleasantly surprising, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I especially liked Elof in this book. I have some questions about this, of Vayde actually, but those do not belong here.

I have just finished Heroes Die and am almost finished (I will finish it this weekend) Blade of Tyshalle. Both are excellent books, but I found Heroes Die to be the better of the two, perhaps the last third of Blade of Tyshalle will change that view.

After I finish those, I will reread LoTR again so I am fresh on the story for when the second movie is released.

2 and a half months without fantasy I can feel myself going slowly insane.

Will carry on with The Great Hunt soon.I flicked through it a couple of night back to remind me of the story.Have no idea why I put it down.

Over 100 pages into Heroes Die and enjoying it a lot. The only problem I have is with all the "ah's" in his dialogue!!

I'm just done "Kushiel's Chosen" and I liked it just as much as "Kushiel's Dart". I wouldn't say its better, but at least the quality is the same as the first book.
