Reading in February 2010

I finished Secrets of the Sands by Leona Wisoker a superb debut novel from a small press and start of a new trilogy; since it's less well known I started a new thread here with more about the novel and a mini-review for now.

I suppose eight POVs may seem like a lot, but it helps that GRRM limits each POV to it's own chapter. I've found that most people will know if they like the book or not by the first 70 or so pages.
It started with 8, but I lost count of how many were in Feast.

Finished Conqueror's Moon by Julian May today. I think it would be a good recommendation to fans of the Farseer trilogy. More on May's book in another thread.

Started the second book of May's trilogy, Ironcrown Moon.

Just finished When True Nights Falls by Celia S. Friedman Coldfire Trilogy, Book 2 and started Crown of Shadows Coldfire Trilogy, Book 3(and the last in the trilogy).

I would say I expected a bit more from the series considering how much price it receives on the Internet. Though it is not bad. 6-7 out of 10.
Damien annoys me with his religious fervency and preaching and prayers. I would not miss him if he were to go. If not for him, I would rate the series 8 out of 10.

On the other hand, I do like Tarrant.
Jenseny's sacrifice probably is the most powerful moment and it was sad to loose Hesseth :(

The Epilogue is also very intriguing and gripping and I am looking forward to read the last book.

Finished Blake Charlton's Spellwright yesterday. I liked it very much. In his fantasy debut, Charlton came up with one of the most imaginative magic systems I've ever read. All in all it was a great book.

It started with 8, but I lost count of how many were in Feast.
I believe it's something like 6 main characters, and then 6 secondary characters who get one or two chapters each. It really isn't that much more though I can see why it feels that way.
