Rugby - formerly 6Nations, formerly WRC

Argie Bargie baby.

Corleto playing huge, Hernandez possibly the best ten on the planet, teh Argentine pack the Tsunami that starts from a soft ripple. Any team that can keep Todeschini on the bench is wild. Oh, and Felipe... do you know a man called Pichot?

Goodnight Scotland.

Argie Bargie baby.

I just realised I have an English/French prop party. Damn my gullibility. My bet is the four major nations from the south to lead their groups and our island friends to majorly upset everyone, particularly Australia. Go Fiji.

Sorry, had to bring this forward.

Well don't we look stupid :( Glad Jenkins has gone - pity he was pushed rather than accepting responsibility. Argentina look something else at the moment, Ireland were poor but that Puma pack is slowly turning into a monster - don't think they have enough at centre or on the wing to win it but should cause major problems in the semi-final. NZ vs France at the quarter-final stage is HUGE and I think it's going to be so close. Saw try of the tournament tonight when the USA winger _rounded_ Habana - burn baby burn.

I'll happily accept Stirling and throw Luke McAlister out as my 12, great defender, incisive inside-outside break, quality kicking option and a better goalkicker than Giteau thus edging him and Steyn out.

Damned Fiji, you were supposed to lead the group.

At 12 I give it to F. Contepomi. The guy is brilliant. He may not have the pure ability of Giteau or Steyn, McAlister's easy NZ arrogance, but there is no one better at marshalling his team to a victory. If NZ played Evans at ten like they should, then I'd agree, Carter would be the best twelve on the planet.

Argie Bargie baby.

I think you'd rather have had England than SA at the moment mate. I decline Contepomi because of his weak goal-kicking and occasional moments of latin temperament - read stupidity. If anything he's a 10 it's just that the Pumas seem to have plenty of them atm.

Dan Carter at 10 ... unless you've fallen for Hernandez now.

9 - a position seemingly lacking at this WC?

Nick Evans at ten for me. A bench player you say? Hell yeah. I think teh Blacks have looked better with Evans at ten than they have with Carter, whose in the side on reputation alone. This is why NZ won't take Bill home with them.

I was going to go Hernandez or Todeschini, but that's only because these boys are going ot win me three thousand dollars.

At 9 Fourie Du Preez. Although he hasn't been required this tournament thus far, the guy is probably the only real game breaker at his position. He goes forward, can kick adn is a try scoring threat, something you don't see from a lot of nines.

At eleven I'd go little Shane Williams. I don't think there's anyone as dynamic or elusive in close.

How great was it to see Habana burnt. It'll always be my magical world cup moment.

What is this easy NZ arrogance of which you speak?

I think all the South Pacific teams and SA and Aus play with a confidence that seems to be lacking in the northern hemisphere. I suppose that's a fairly basic observation but some teams treat the ball like a hot potato. Why don't they just grab it and run?

My team's slipping tonight (I support NZ and anyone playing against Australia :p)

Hold on... how nice to see Wallabies rattled...

hold on... that's more than a rattling! :o

Don't mention the rugby. :(

It seems confidence isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Who's looking forward to the Aus/NZ league challenge in Wellington?

LOL, as disappointing as it was not to see NZ or Australia reach the semis, I am glad my team (Boks) is there. Now, just to get through Argentina...

Bah. ;)

Oh the shame.

You know, on a psychological note this is really interesting. I'm not a big rugby head at all, but when world cup time rolls around I get interested. I have fond memories of watching the games in 1987 as a kid with my Dad and grandparents (not that many fond memories of me and Dad, so it's special). Apparently, the amount of reported domestic violence incidences increased quite a bit on Sunday through to Monday (the game was played at 8am Sunday morning here). Work productivity was at an all time low on Monday, with many taking the day off, or people standing around talking about it all day in offices. One guy and his mates even went out and crushed a car with a huge roller machine to 'let out their frustrations.' (A car that was just fine and running, apparently). News reports claim that 'NZ is a nation in mourning.' I rather think it's true. Rugby and the national psyche go hand in hand it seems.

I think it's because we're raised knowing that we are a mere collective pimple on the arse of the world... so to be able to do something at world class level is not only awesome, it's a tremendous achievement, and one which NZrs celebrate, perhaps disproportionately to other countries but proportionate to the achievement of a tiny country like NZ. Of course that bloody pimple/arse psyche is a hard one to shake. :(

two finals, no tries. adn after the defeat, Argie Bargie baby.

I thought the 3/4 play-off was a fantastic match, probably the best of the tournament and the Final was as predictable as expected. I think it was a great tournament and the best team did win the WC ... now if they could only win the Tri-Nations we'd have genuine world champions :D

It was the only match with any true passion. The rest were overly inflicted by their coaching staff. Bring back Alan Jones, but remind him he is a coach first...
