SFFWorld Members big Blog thread

I’ve been inducted into the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association’s Hall of Fame. My name goes on a trophy and they’ll send me a plaque.

It’s in recognition of a long contribution to the specific genre. Thinking about that, it struck me that my first fantasy novel, Fools Errant, came out 26 years ago next month. So, indeed, I have been at this for quite a while.

The years do pile up behind us.

A few hours from now, I will put out the latest issue of my monthly emailed newsletter. If you're not on the mailing list, but would like to be, please go to my web page and use the sign-up form in the top right corner.

Hi All,

I just introduced myself in the Intro thread, thought I might as well post my blog and get that out of the way. You can find me at www.AaronBossig.com ... I'm a writer and podcaster, and right now my blog is MOSTLY show notes from the podcast, but I'm starting to release more and more writing content, and that's only going to increase over time.

I’m 70,000 words into Passengers and Perils (working title), an episodic space-opera novel that continues the adventures of Conn Labro and Jenore Mordene, from my 2008 Vancean novel, Template. I started out to write it as another series of short stories I could later cobble together into a “fix-up” novel, but decided to go whole hog after I sold the first episode, “Stopover at Meech’s World,” to Amazing Stories.

As the story has progressed, I’ve found myself bringing in characters from other books and stories. So far, I’ve had Erm Kaslo and Henghis Hapthorn playing supporting roles, with cameos from Luff Imbry, Brustrum Warhanny, and Old Confustible. We’ve had visits to the Terfel Connaissarium and Bolly’s Snug. I think it is turning out to be good fun.

A British publisher has expressed interest in doing a limited edition as well as an unsigned trade hardcover. I’m going to see if I can find a North American publisher to take the paperback, ebook, and audio rights.

I’m just writing the last episode now, and expect to have the manuscript ready to send by the end of the month.

My Dying Earth-set novel, A God in Chains (Edge SF & Fantasy Publishing, 2019), is shortlisted as book of the year in the speculative fiction category for the Alberta Publishing Awards.

It’s a juried award that honors the publisher, not the author, but hey, a drive-by nomination is still pretty skookum.

By the way, the novel, set in the same milieu as the Raffalon and Baldemar stories, has racked up 33 five-star reviews on Amazon since it was released 11 months ago.

A reminder: my Dying Earth fantasy novel, A God in Chains (30 five-star reviews on Amazon!) is being offered as a 99-cent ebook through a Bookbub promotion wherever ebooks are sold. The promotion doesn’t apply to the US, but Amazon.com has price-matched anyway.

But the cheapie deal ends today, so get ‘em while they’re hot.

Mr. Hughes,
Don't know your work. What are you proudest of? (Others may chime in here) so that I can order it/some?
I much prefer to read paper.

My first short story which triggered my passion for writing: Revival of Mars

I'm pioneering a unique eight-part collection to be compiled in a book called Sins of Death.
Part 1 is already out! Please check out my thread in the Promotion Zone.

If we we're all living in the story, what does that say about the author?
Well, the story isn't finished yet. There will be an end, probably a good one, though there will have to be a sequel called "Aftermath." Meanwhile, if this were a novel, there is certainly a lot of drama, like any disaster story. There are heroes making science progress and medical staff saving lives, bad guys getting in the way of solving this, human tragedy. It's true there are too many characters to try to follow. A real author would pick a few and follow them with their personal stories in all this. A doctor hero, a victim, a political leader or few.
