Song Of The Day

You must all go and buy Jeff Black's Tin Lily... and my song for the day taken from that excellent album is Easy on me... fantastic bit of singer-songwriter skullduggery...

Hey I know what you want from me
but I've given all that I can give
you believe what you believe
I think I need my soul to live
you say you don't wanna tie me down
so what's with all these ropes and chains
I know the deal I've been downtown
I know to come in out of the rain

take it easy on me, take it easy on me now

well I've always had a wondering eye
well I guess it was just passed on down to me
and the price I pay is pretty high
to see this world the way I see
well I'm flying out the window now
and I'm riding on the setting sun
and I'm getting back behind the plow
and I'll work until my work is done

take it easy on me, take it easy on me now

I'm heading back to depressing music and back to Kate Rusby. Today's choice is the traditional folk lament "I am stretched on your grave" from her debut album "Hourglass". Sends shivers down my spine every time...

I just got back in from the gym, so in honour of my 'gym playlist' on the old iPod... I will spin Cochise by Audioslave and go old school with Reef's Naked... both adrenaline pumping 'hit the punchbag harder' tunes.

I don't do depression... I do aggression.

Just heard a wonderful song on a recommendation, so thought I would share it with you all... How to save a life by The Fray... great pop-rock tune... they sound like an American version of Keane.

It's a pretty cool song, wasn't it used on Grey's Anatomy?

Today I am taking your advice, moving away from depressing and straight down the road to angry.

Alternative Ulster by Stiff Little Fingers. The opening riff is truly sublime, my favourite Punk song ever.

Listen to it.

Nice lyrics guys. And recommendations.

SLF - 30 years and going strong. Nothing much matches the energy from that first album.

My song of the day: For A Few Less Candles - Mick Thomas. One of our finest singer songwriters. Feeling my age this week.

Too bad I couldn't get the player to work -- I'm all about the punk. Today: the band: Blondie. The album: Parallel Lines. The track: Pick One, Anyone.

She's only happy in the sun - Ben Harper

Another great, chilled-out singer-songwriter with gospel, blues and rock roots. Diamonds on the inside is one of my favorite albums and the title track came close to being my song of the day but the above is just so beautiful it pipped it to the post.

I'm feeling Good - Bublè

ps. Just to let you guys know, I have no idea who half the artists are you refer to but am making a list to take to my local Music store so I can widen my horizons. :p

Stephen Fretwell - Emily

Another cracker from his album, Magpie. I used to perform this tune in my set and I used to get asked all the time if it was one of my own and sadly... I obviously had to say 'no'.

Imagine the scene.

It's late at night, the dimly lit club is mostly empty. Used glasses and empty bottles litter the tables and across the room, half obscured by the smoke, at the bar, sits a beautiful woman in a red sequinned dress.

No moon at all by the sultry Julie London

That's why I love this thread. I've found more good new (to me) music here than I have anywhere else ever.

Nice choice btw...

And I love it too, for the same reasons.

Today, Ray Lamontagne, Narrow Escape from his first cd, Trouble.

SOD -- "A Million Ways" by my new favorite band, OK Go. They make the best videos -- can see some at YouTube.

In honor of this being my first day of vacation, "Free" by Phish. Oh how I need this...
