calling all writers...

~ FUTURE FIRST ~
http://futurefirstmag.weebly.com/

Future First is a print magazine that publishes high-quality, future-oriented work. The magazine aspires to capture the hope, struggle, and excitement for a distant future for the human race at home (Earth) and abroad, as well as to inspire future-mindedness.

Philosophical comics, speculative art, stories of exploration, investigative poetry, essays about space travel, time, and culture--these are the things that get our hyperdrives burning.

We are not a genre publication. We are a mission-based publication. We <3 sci-fi and realist work and refuse to be pigeonholed.

Submit today at Green Submissions.

Call for submissions! FUK'd Movement magazine.

Hey I started a magazine, like brand new. I'm getting submissions left and right, but just for poetry and general fiction. I hate to be that guy that just jumps in and solicits, but I need fantasy, sci-fi, horror and all cross genres in between.

Since my normal submissions page has vulgar language in it I won't be posting it since it specifies not to. What I can say is it is token paying right now $5-$20. Up to 5,000 words, can be more. Experimental style.

I hope it's okay that I include a link for site submissions page and email. If not please delete and I apologize.

Well met, my friends!

On Monday my Kickstarter campaign to create and publish a science fiction and fantasy short story collection was successfully funded thanks to the generosity of family, friends, and other awesome people.

In addition to the contributions by the featured indie authors, I am looking for story submissions. Here are the details of the open call:

Stories can be submitted in either American English or German until the 31st of January 2016. At least three of the eleven stories will be contributions of this open call.

The length of the stories should be around 5000 words, but anything in the range of 4000-7500 words is acceptable.

We are looking for whimsical, family friendly stories that could be shelved in the fantasy and science fiction section of a book store. The theme of the anthology is “Arcane Arts,” which should be reflected by the submitted stories.

If your story is accepted we will buy non-exclusive world anthology rights in English, German, and translations, as well as audio and ebook anthology rights in English, German, and translations.
Since the Kickstarter campaign did not reach any stretch goals, the advance payment is €50. The advance payment has already been earned out by the Kickstarter campaign. Royalties will be based on 25% of the ebook cover price and 10% of the trade paperback cover price. Royalties will be paid out every June and December. The total royalties will be divided by the number of stories to yield the royalties per story that are paid out to the authors.

Please send your story to [email protected] with the subject line “[ARCANE] STORY TITLE – YOUR NAME” in Microsoft Word (.DOC), Rich Text Format (.RTF), or ascii text (.TXT) format.

Ideally your document should use the following settings: 1.5 times linespacing, 2 cm (0.7874 inch) margins all around, page width 15.24 cm (6 inches), page height 22.86 cm (9 inches), line indention 1.25 cm (~ 0.5 inch), font size 12 point, justified text, headings should be bold, centered, 18 point.

Here is a Microsoft Word File with the above mentioned format that you can use as a template: Arcane Arts Template.

Please include the following information in the body of your e-mail: the title of your story, your name, your pen name that will be used in the anthology, phone number, and short biography.

Pursue your dreams and see you next time,

Kai

EDIT#1: It was pointed out to me that other anthologies do not require exclusivity, so I removed that clause. It was only there in the first place, because I did not want to acquire infinite exclusivity.

Remastered Words is a short story competition with a difference. There are plenty of incredible short story markets out there but Remastered Words is one of the first that offers to turn your original, unpublished work, into an audio masterpiece. The world of audiobooks is yet another market where you can have your creative voice heard. It is constantly growing and becoming increasingly popular alongside more traditional routes for authors. So why not delve around in your archives for one of your favourite pieces or even write something fresh and new? Submit your work to us and be in with a chance to see it created into a piece of audio art!

We already have a great line up of judges who will read the shortlisted stories and determine the winners, all we need now are some incredible tales to tell!

Find out more at www.remasteredwords.com

Hi Remastered Words, on your submission page it states: 'currently closed to submissions' ...?

ah okay, I was bamboozled by the invitation to submit above, followed by a bold and capitalised CLOSED - and so, blinded by rejection I fled before I spotted the countdown!

Hi Pyewackett,
Apologies for any confusion. The submissions open at the beginning of March, I have sent this post out early to give folks time to write and come up with some ideas. There's nothing worse than having to rush to get something done due to a last minute deadline. I hope that clarifies things :-)
Thanks.

With an addition to our judging lineup comes another amazing opportunity. Dave Robison of the Roundtable Podcast has offered the winning author a guest spot on the show to pitch a story idea to the hosts and a Guest Host (usually a published author, editor, or publisher). Your story will be center stage as they discuss it with you, ask questions, and offer suggestions on how to make it as strong as it can be. I think you’ll agree that this is an awesome opportunity and we thank Dave for the offering.

The countdown clock is ticking and there's only 19 days to go until the submissions window is open, so get writing!

A quick update to let everyone know that Remastered Words is now open for your submissions! Please head over to the site, take a look around and don't miss out on our interviews with this years voiceover artists, Joshua Young and Rachel Hine, while you're there.

It's been a year already and the submission period for 2017 is now open!

Our first year was very exciting and we read some great short stories. Now we invite you to take a look at the website and find out some more about this year's competition, judging lineup and prizes. Also you can listen to Adrian Tchaikovsky's audio short story performed by Joshua Young and meet the winners from 2016.

We look forward to seeing you there :)

I have edited a couple of scifi anthologies now, and am getting to really enjoy it. Quite a few authors have been asking when I'll run another. As I have several of my own books coming out over the summer, I've decided to go for a submissions deadline of 31 October 2017.
I am aiming for a late November release to take advantage of people buying paperbacks for Christmas presents and ebooks for themselves over the holiday.

The theme and title of the collection is 'The Guardian'. This could be a bodyguard, a childminder, a ship protecting a vital planet, an ancient alien defending an abandoned site, whatever. Anything within the broader science fiction genre is welcome, though in the interests of not getting hidden by Amazon we'd need to avoid outright erotica.
Entries should be between 2500 and 10000 words. As long as they are available to publish, they could have been already released somewhere else, though new pieces would have priority. They can be completely one-off stories, or introductions to series as long as they have a self-contained storyline.
I can't guarantee that all entries will be included. You can submit more than one story, but I won't choose more than one per author to be included. I am aiming for around twelve quality pieces that work well together and avoid covering too much of the same ground.

The focus of the project will be on exposure for the participating authors. Each story will be immediately followed by a short 'about the author' and two links - one to their mailing list signup and one to their homepage (I would encourage participants to set up a unique landing page for these so they can track conversion). As all the stories will be scifi, this should help generate targeted also-boughts.
Profits from the sales will go towards paying off the setup (cover, proofreading, formatting etc), my time, and ongoing advertising costs. The Newcomer paid off the setup in a little over a month and the advertising kitty fills up nicely until I splurge on some promos. The Officer hit 500 sales in the first few weeks.

If you're wondering what I'm like to work with, I'm sure none of the authors in the last couple of bundles would mind a quick question.
The two existing anthologies in the series are The Newcomer and The Officer. You could also have a look at my website http://www.alasdairshaw.co.uk/twodemocracies to see the kind of things I tend to write.

By submitting your short story, you grant non-exclusive rights in perpetuity for it to be included in the anthology. There will be no fee for entry and no payment for inclusion.

The somewhat belated 6th SFFWorld.com anthology is now open to submissions from the world at large! Our theme this years is Heroes and Villains, whether their heroism or villainy is large or small -- but there's another little detail to bear in mind.

Welcome to Pacific City! is a shared world project. It will focus on our titular megalopolis, a 20 million-strong city on the coast of Oregon that puts the likes of NYC, LA and Tokyo to shame. Contributors have the chance to help design and define our world from the ground up, and you can find sources of inspiration at the city guide on the site. Submission info and other details are on the landing page, but in a nutshell: we'll be offering a $15 fee on acceptance, plus a contributor's copy of the paperback on publication. We'll also be running a Kickstarter campaign in the hope of bumping those fees to a cents-per-word rate.

Metropolis has Superman and Lex Luthor, Gotham has Batman and all the rest. Who or what stalks Pacific City is down to you...

The deadline for submissions is November 30th -- hope you give it a try!

You can find Welcome To Pacific City listed on Ralan and The Grinder.
