Submission Requests, Call For Submissions - Post HERE!

Just a quick update: the submission window for the next SFFWorld.com anthology, Welcome to Pacific City!, is now into its final month. We're listed on Ralan and The Grinder if you're already an established writer, but even if you're not that's no reason not to give us a shot!

Just a bump here. WELCOME TO PACIFIC CITY will continue SFFW's tradition of publishing an annual Sci-Fi/Fantasy anthology. Brewing since Jan/Feb, it remains in need of some good tales. Here's the discussion thread concerning the 2017 Anthology. You can peruse the whole thread or cut to the chase by forwarding your browser to the last ten or fifteen remarks. Likewise, you can follow Andrew's links above

Last notice: depending on your time-zone, there are just five days to go before the submission window for SFFWorld.com's 2017 anthology closes!

We want heroic and/or villainous stories that help establish our shared world magacity... you can visit it here.

Okay, that's it - the submission window for the 2017 SFFWorld Anthology is now closed! Thanks to everyone who submitted work, we'll be in touch with selection details between now and mid-December.

I have edited a few scifi anthologies now, and am getting to really enjoy it. Quite a few authors have been asking when I'll run another. I've decided to go for a submissions deadline of 30 April 2018.
I am aiming for a late June release to take advantage of people buying paperbacks and ebooks for themselves ready for summer holidays (sorry Antipodes).

The Renegade will be a collection of science fiction short stories on the theme of 'the renegade'. This could be a conscientious deserter, a pirate, a radical scientist, or whatever fits. Anything within the broader science fiction genre is welcome, though in the interests of not getting hidden by Amazon we'd need to avoid outright erotica.
Entries should be between 2500 and 10000 words. As long as they are available to publish, they could have been already released somewhere else, though new pieces would have priority. They can be completely one-off stories, or introductions to series as long as they have a self-contained storyline.
I can't guarantee that all entries will be included. You can submit more than one story, but I won't choose more than one per author to be included. I am aiming for around twelve quality pieces that work well together and avoid covering too much of the same ground.

The focus of the project will be on exposure for the participating authors. Each story will be immediately followed by a short 'about the author' and two links - one to their mailing list signup and one to their homepage (I would encourage participants to set up a unique landing page for these so they can track conversion). As all the stories will be scifi, this should help generate targeted also-boughts.
Profits from the sales will go towards paying off the setup (cover, proofreading, formatting etc), my time, and ongoing advertising costs. The Newcomer paid off the setup in a little over a month and the advertising kitty fills up nicely until I splurge on some promos.

You can look at the existing anthologies in the series at http://www.alasdairshaw.co.uk/thenewcomer

By submitting your short story, you grant non-exclusive rights in perpetuity for it to be included in the anthology. There will be no fee for entry and no payment for inclusion.

Greetings, promo-browsers! Last year's SFFWorld.com anthology is somewhat delayed - it's still not out! - so we are keeping this year's project small and simple:

Theme: DYING EARTH
Word Count: 2000 - 7,500 (firm lower limit, hard upper limit)
Deadline: September 30th, 2018 (author's local time)
Requested Rights: first anthology, probably 6 months exclusivity, and we'll try for ebook and print-on-demand
Compensation: $TBC, but I'll make sure we don't backslide on author comp; plus copies of ebook and hopefully p-o-d
Date of Publishing: Before the end of the year

Some notes:
  • The prompt theme is just that: a prompt. If you want to take "Dying Earth" literally, fine; if you want to go Vanceian, fine; post-apoc or whatever, go to it.
  • We are open to flash-length subs since it's been a popular contest in the Writing section of the forum. For the general sub lower limit I've said 2k, but if you offer us something 1k+ that really sings, why should we say no?
  • For the upper limit, 5000 words is the sweet spot; the longer than this they are, the better they must be - embrace the edit!
  • The deadline is tight, we know - watch here for news of a probable extension. If you're interested in participating but need more time, get in touch - and when your story is polished to a mirror shine, PM me here for the submission email!

| Theme:

Yellow, the color between orange and green on the spectrum of visible light, is a primary color in subtractive color systems. Yellow has labelled both heretics and those with honoured status. We’ve associated it with happiness, gentleness, humour, reason, harmony, as well as envy, sickness, and cowardice. It’s the colour of taxis, school buses, caution signs, bananas, buttercups, saffron, the third chakra, and our sun. Share your interpretation of YELLOW with words or images.

Entries may include 2- and 3-dimensional media, such as paintings, drawings, photography, mixed media, installations, ceramics, jewelry, fabric, sculpture, photos of performance art, fiction, poetry, short stories and other written explorations (up to 900 words).
