Cats!? How the heck did we get to the topic of eating cats? What happened to the chocolate?

I'm not saying you shouldn't be eating cat, just wondering...

Me? Why...no, of course not.

Excuse me a moment, I have a hairball. Cough, cough.

Ah, dear. As a 20+ year vegetarian, I see absolutely no difference between eating a cat and eating a cow. However, we have gone woefully off subject.

We were talking about CHOCOLATE!! What went wrong?

Well T cows taste good - cats I am sure taste like old balls of yarn and fish bones. Yuck.

Well, my laptop died.

Fabulous.

And my story was on it.

Great.

So now, I have no story. And no time to sit around and write it out again. I doubt I'll be submitting anything this month.

This makes me sad.

Aw, that sucks. I feel for you; I, too, have been betrayed by my computers in the past. Most spectacularly when one hard drive fried, the USB stick I have saved all my work on was corrupted, and the only thing I had left were a few months-old documents I had e-mailed myself (text only, no notes at all), and ancient scribbles on disparate scraps of paper. And I trusted my computer!

Hey NickeeCoco,

as long as your harddrive is not dead, you should be able to restore your data. And even if the harddrive is corrupted, you can often restore most of the data. Talk to your nearest Computer Techie :)

Yes, well, it doesn't even turn on. It just sits there with a black screen. I actually think the power source is shot. However, I do not have the funds to get it fixed at the moment. Not with Xmas coming up. I'll have to make due with my old, stumbling desktop until after Xmas.

Just a thought: have you tried removing the battery and turning it on with only the cable attached. Removing the battery should be pretty easy, just by pressing two buttons on the underside of the laptop. Does your recharger cable have a little lamp light up when its plugged in? Does it light up? Does the laptop show its charging at all? Also: the fact that it doesn't turn, doesn't mean you won't be able to get your data back. If you get the money to repair it, make sure to tell the people that you want the DATA from it before they start working.

Oops ... uh if I have any more thoughts/ideas I'll PM you, sorry for going off-topc :D

I'd do as Scorpion suggests NickeeCoco, but also, please do submit. I bet if you start typing right now, it'll just flow. You've already written it. Would love to see another non-dark entry, especially from you. :)

You're still in university, right? They'll have an IT office, which I'll bet next month's wages is staffed by men.

Don your nightclub outfit and bring the laptop to their room. Bat eyelashes. Say your work is on there and you neeeeeeed it fixed you'll be sooooooooo grateful and by the way don't look at the personal folder with pictures of me in it have it ready by Wednesday thanks bye.

Alright. This is what's been happening. For the last couple of weeks, I noticed sometimes that while the laptop was plugged in, the computer wasn't registering that it was plugged in. I'd unplug it and then re-plug it and then it seemed to work again. Then, the other day, I noticed that the rectangular box on the cable was making some ticking noises. So I shut the computer down and let it sit for a day. Then, I booted up a day later and was editing my story when the screen went dark. The battery light flashed and then nothing. I tried plugging it in and starting up again, but nothing. Just a dark screen and no lights. That's why I think its the power source.

And no, I graduated a year ago. Night club outfit. . . Haha. I'm almost thirty. I don't have anything like that anymore.

And thanks, tmso, I appreciate it. I'll try, but I actually don't have my desktop set up yet. I'm using my partner's antiquated one. (Up until a week ago it still had Windows ME). See, the spare bedroom (where his computer is) has been used as a sort of storage room. Until the boxes and assorted whatnots are moved to the basement, there's no room for me to set up my not as old computer. He doesn't even have a word processing program on here, save notepad.

That sounds exactly like a laptop that I had once! It did the exact same thing. It turns out that somewhere inside the thing the power wires weren't hooking up right, or rather that every time I punched on a certain set of keys, it was disengaging the power. It was a design problem. They got the data off my hard drive and I chucked the laptop.

That sucks. It wasn't worth the money to get it fixed?

And know what the kicker is for me? My extended warranty JUST WENT VOID. I mean, it just expired TWO WEEKS AGO!!! ARG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's definitely just the cable then. Buy a recharging cable either exactly for your laptop or one with the same plug and voltage. It can't cost more than 20$. I think your laptop is fine, it's just the recharger. Good news! :) Basically, your laptop wasnt charging = no juice to run and turn on.
