Well, now that I've managed that, it might be worth another go at the Wheel of Time books! Never made it past Book 4 after about 4 goes.... :)

Enjoy. It peaks at season 4-5 which is the epic arc for supernatural. Jumps the shark after season 6 ish

Thanks, FB. I have the first 8 seasons, and currently on Season Three, which is better than Season One. :)

That is somewhat what we are experiencing in Season 2. We liked the modern day story and characters, but we are less enthused with the darker 1500's time travel story / season. I usually like period pieces, but its such a large juxtaposition from the way the story started, that it is somewhat off putting.

I've been off work for a couple of days fighting a ripping sinus infection. Haven't felt like reading much, so we plowed on through the 2nd season of "A Discovery of Witches" and it turned out well. The modern time and past time coming back into play. Slow start, but a good finish to the season.

Finally caught up with Mark Gatiss' production of M. R. James' "The Tractate Middoth." Very nicely produced and acted, including a couple of Dr. Who alums, Louise Jameson and Sasha Dhawan. I've seen a couple more on Prime and look forward to watching those, too.

If you haven't already , try the original BBC's Ghost Stories for Christmas . Without searching , I recall a lot of MR James's adaptations e.g. " Whistle and I come lad " ( with John Hurt I think ) and a Charles Dicken's one called The Signal Man with Denholm Elliot . I have them all on old dvds . In UK all re-released again in shiny blu , but at the moment can't justify the expense of " double dipping "

Over here it was almost " event television " before that was a thing.

Finished this show in a weekend binge. Little slow to start at the beginning of the 2nd season, but the pace and story picked up and held all the way through the 3rd and final season. Great ending that tied up all the loose ends. Too bad it was only 3 seasons.

That's great to hear, Raf. I got stuck early in Season 2, but now I have some motivation to plow through it.

It’s time! Silo returns to AppleTV+ for Season 2, we get to find out where Juliette walks to on the surface. That’s the tag line for this season as it turns out, “The truth will surface.” In addition to the current storyline continuing, there’s a lot of flashback scenes in the first episode to a time when Juliette was young and learning about her new life in Engineering. Looking like this is going to be another great season.

The Dune: Prophecy series has begun on Max. It’s started off pretty well, with the level of scheming and treachery one would expect. It takes place 10,000 years before the events of Dune, and is concerned with the early days of the sisterhood that will become the Bene Gesserit. It has some strong characters and grand settings. We’ll see if it delivers on the storylines that have been started in the initial episode.
 
Rings of Power ( Lord of the rings ) on PRIME UK

We've just finished season one . It took a wee while to get going but really enjoyed the last 3 episodes and the whole Sauron situation is very intriguing and creepy !

We're taking a break to binge Slow Horses season 4 ( Apple TV UK ) latest season then intend to resume Rings of Power .
 
Life on the Street Season 2 episode 1.
Husband, played excellently by Robin Williams, who has lost his wife. Acting, drama, character usage, is up to the standard of the best crime series ever broadcast,
Grit and some character treatment of the detectives could put a viewer off. However, (if you don't live in Baltimore) it is perhaps part of the best police drama ever roadcast. (As I said.) Others involve more character development and plot. However here you feel as if you are either on the street or in the cop shop.

Correction. I should have said Homicide, Life On the Street. Which made it comment a little - uh - obscure?

I've been watching the BBC's new SF-esque drama The Listeners.

I've seen 3 of the 4 episodes so far. It's definitely light on the science-fiction, concentrating more on how the (so-far) unexplained phenomenon affects one family, but has a strong atmosphere and some good performances. Rebecca Hall is excellent, I think, which is lucky because she is on-screen 90% of the time. I find her daughter and particularly her husband quite irritating as characters as they each think they own her, and her friends are frankly horrible to her. I'm looking forward to the final episode and am glad that they have not gone crazy on the length, limiting it to about 3 hours.

The final episode was quite dramatic, but I think well made. It actually reminded me a little of a Chris Priest plot as
the viewpoint was all from one person and the resolution was just perplexing enough to leave some questions but not too many...
Definitely worth seeing :)
 
I am on a Ben Aaronovitch (Rivers of London) kick. I noted that he wrote two Doctor Who series, back in the Sylvester McCoy days, Remembrance of the Daleks & Battleground. Watched them. I always liked McCoy and Sophie Aldred (Ace). The running around and melodramatic plots of old Who occasioned pleasurable memories.

I really liked them at the time. They were just developing into interesting characters, with some really intriguing ideas for the future when it was cancelled. Still think they're underrated in the last few series - the comedic Sylvester at the beginning of his reign less so. Did meet him a few years ago, and have a signed photo to prove it!
