TV Series or Show You're Watching

Watched the two Worzel Gummidge specials from Mackenzie Crook. Simply wonderful. If you enjoyed the original Worzel Gummidge or Dectorists at all you should give these a watch.
 
It seems to have been very well received, though the makeup to me seems rather odd.

It's quite creepy in places too, I'm told. I'm just finding it odd that the BBC are heralding the return of what was once an ITV television series!

A worzel is a turnip I believe, so his head is made from a turnip. I think it works very well.

There are creepy moments but nothing too scary I think. Well, if ITV doesn't want to do Worzel Gummidge again and BBC does then I say have at it. The result cannot be denied.
 
Well, these days they are all independently produced... and that shows how things have changed in television world.
 
Here is an interesting USA Today article that argues that The Witcher is "so bad its good" and is "in on the joke". I agree with some of the criticisms, but am pretty sure that The Witcher was not intentionally bad or "in on the joke." https://www.usatoday.com/story/ente...flix-fantasy-so-bad-its-fantastic/2794100001/ Certainly, they made *some* deliberate decisions such as deliberately confusing folks with time jumps that are deliberately undetectable (for example, time jumps without engaging their costume department to age people at all despite the passage of over a decade). But I don't think the effects were deliberately cheesy, as the article claims, for example. (Indeed, the fight between Yennifer and the wizard with the bug creature was actually pretty good for a tv show that isn't GoT.) And I have my doubts that the The Witcher song was intended to be as annoyingly, offensively bad as it is in an attempt to make it catchy (which some are claiming that it is.)
 
To be fair, I enoyed the Netflix Witcher series. That said, I've got some experience with the witcher lore - games and 1st audiobook. Plot wise, it sticks pretty close to the short stories of the last wish

That said, it does cram a lot into its running time and I can see how people new to the franchise may find it difficult to follow. The pacing's off and it took me 5 or 6 episodes to figure out the stories were taking place out of chronological order

It's more an 'above average' rather than a memorable 'must see' for me

From what I have heard, that is actually a trademark of the video game as well so I was actually surprised to see it in the show. Usually shows don't want to challenge their viewers that much. I actually liked the aha moment I got when I realized I was watching Yennefer's segments from the past at the time I was watching Geralt's in the present. Enjoyed it even more when they swapped time frames. The only gripe I had is something I have been seeing a lot in current TV and movies. There seems to be a tendency to have very loud background sounds and/or music playing over dialogue. I am no spring chicken any more so I miss some of the context of the scenes.

I too am no longer young (or middle age) and I have the same problem and I have better things to do with $3,000 then to spend it on hearing aids...
the CC button on your tv or video app is quite useful and after a few shows I don’t really notice it unless I need to glance at it to see what they really said.

bonus is that when I have my annual visit from my older and much healthier sister she does not complain about my having the volume at 11

Started the Mof/tis adaptation of Dracula on BBC. Yes, they've changed it (as is expected these days) but it's pretty good. I've only finished the first episode and will almost certainly be finishing this series. Unlike The Witcher.
 
Finished The Witcher, which I really enjoyed.

Watched two of the three Dracula episodes, which are typical Gatiss/Moffat affairs and will be loved or reviled in equal measure, I suspect.

Finished Season Two of The Expanse, which I really enjoyed, but will probably take a break with.

Now looking at Season Two of Lost in Space. I will also continue with the second part/season of Sabrina, though it is not what I thought it was going to be.
 
After watching Mackenzie Crook in Worzel Gummidge I've started rewatching Detectorists. Perhaps the best comedy series of the 10s.
 
I'm watching Dracula tonight. The third epsiode apparently caused a stir among viewers.

Yeah. Haven't seen it yet, but am in no hurry. There was a twist at the end of the second episode that suggested that it was w-a-a-a-y off the source material. Be interested to read what people think/thought, though.
 
Do you think the book is still worth reading? I beieve it is completely in the form of diary entries?
