TV Series or Show You're Watching

I’m currently in Season 2 of the surprisingly good Project Blue Book, which is a History Channel scripted drama. In this series, Dr. Allen Hynek (Aidan Gillen) and Captain Michael Quinn (Michael Malarkey) form a team that investigates UFO sightings in the 1950s. This involves government cover-ups from the past (including at Roswell) and new UFO cases in their present (including at Area 51).

The team of the professor trying to discover the truth, and the square-jawed US Air Force officer, remind me a little of the X-Files duo (without the repressed sexual tension). There are a number of similarities in the two shows. The episodes are loosely based on real events, and there really was a US Air Force Blue Book investigation into UFOs.

Another thing the series does right is the period it is set in. They have Cold War concerns as a backdrop to the main storyline. The period cars, houses, and cultural issues all seem well done.

Unfortunately, the History Channel has not renewed the series for a third season. So the books are closed on Project Blue Book at the end of Season 2.
 
I enjoyed Season 1 - will now have a look out for Season 2 here in the UK. Sorry to hear it's not been renewed though.

Season 2 digs deeper into the conspiracy and cover-up plot line, beginning with a two-parter on the Roswell incident. I was disappointed about the cancellation as well, but History seems to be killing off all its scripted dramas except for Vikings.

As a side note, I thought it was interesting to see Aidan Gillen play a role other than Littlefinger in GoT....
 
Nothing's really inspiring me TV show-wise at the moment, so starting to re-watch Breaking Bad. Such a great show.
 
Watched the first ep of Vagrant Queen and I was hooked! Could be a viable replacement for the much-missed Killjoys. Man I miss that show! Based on the comic book, and it has a kind of comic book vibe to it. Another strong female character, and looks like a very imaginative storyline. Hope it keeps up the quality.

When I was ten years old in 1957 I was all over reading about this sort of conspiracy theory publication about project blue book and eric VonDaniken chariots of the god's garbage. but I was 9 ad 10 years old VonDanikin had yet to publish his book yo found him in privately published newsletters that you picked up at science-fiction conventions... (in my case in Boston) but I was ten for gods sake how any rational adult can swallow this bullshit I have forever struggled to understand...

see the hilarious film "Paul" fo much entertainment and fun...
to see something like Roswell making the rounds again ... well, sometimes I despair of the human race when I read about folks taking this production as the gospel truth.
 
Well, in the 50s & 60s "saucer fever" was a thing, wasn't it? Some pulp magazines depended on that for their sales:

I remember that in the 70s.

I was as a youngster obsessed with the Bermuda Triangle, just before Close Encounters came out - it may have been as a result of the Arthur C Clarke Mysterious World TV series, which was about then as well.

I read a book that went through each case logically explaining what had happened and why they might have been lost. All very logical:

But it is fun - and most definitely not to be taken seriously!
 
I've just noticed a series beginning on SyFy called Spides (not misspelled by the way). Anyone seen it, know anything about it? Blurb says "girl awakes from a coma with no knowledge of her previous life"... Wondering if it's worth adding to my queue.

Also want to re-push Vagrant Queen. Awesome is too weak a word. Let's hope it goes from renewal to renewal. Best and freshest sci-fi show on TV since, well, Killjoys. A treat to watch. Great humour, some pathos, nice twists and a villain to rival the very best and most smilingly maniacal ones you can think of! Can't recommend it highly enough.
 
Started here in the UK on the Syfy Channel on Tuesday - I missed it, although, if it helps, the Radio Times here says that it's for those who like X-Files conspiracies... "the acting is often on the stilted side, but in a way this only adds to Spides's grungy B-movie charm. " (LINK)
 
Thanks. I'm in Ireland so the same here. Doesn't inspire the greatest confidence, does it? Still, I guess I'll give it a go.
 
Premier League football is back. They literally took cheering crowds from a computer game and added that to the soundtrack. At least Formula 1 will have its regular engine sounds.

I was fascinated by the Bermuda Triangle when I was young. It was especially cool to since my father, who was in the navy, sailed through the area many times. That was amazing to me back then. Of course I have since sailed through the area myself with no adverse affects. Or so it seems...

I then lived in Eastern England, so I think part of the attraction was how wonderfully foreign it all was. Bermuda for me was about as accessible as Narnia then.... not much changed now, sadly. But the idea of mystery I quite liked, even though the reality seems much more mundane! But I am jealous, Vince... :)

Yay for the footy! I would have thought a decent idea would have been to have done some sort of streaming thing where people could choose to join the game(s) they wanted to see and then it would have been real voices. Or failing that, invite people to tape their own chants, songs and applause and send them in to the BBC, let MOTD use them. Still, even if it was completely silent I think I'd be happy to see football back on the telly. Roll on Saturday!

Doesn't the Premier League only allow the live broadcasting in the UK of one simultaneous afternoon game at a time? Will they break this rule to allow all fans to see their club in action?
 
I don't know, but given that NO fans can go to the match in person, surely they'd be prepared to change their rules for the enjoyment of all? Strange times and all that.

Recently, I had stopped rewatching halfway through episode 6. I think I'll watch the rest of that and episodes 7 & 8 after things cool down a bit tonight. It has been over 30°C for the last three days. And I am not particularly fond of weather this hot.
