Not at all - I'm sure there are people who wouldn't have known what you meant (I don't think the US has an equivalent?)
 
Thanks Westy: I think that's why I was thinking that - I couldn't think of a US equivalent.
Being an Admin I know how much things can be thrown out there assuming that people will know - and how often such things can be misunderstood.

On Marmite, I'm OK with the spread but I love Marmite flavoured crisps...

Indeed, we do not. Many Americans have heard of Vegemite from the famous Men at Work song! Marmite is less well known. These can only be purchased on-line or in speciality stores in the US. Few Americans claim to like the taste...

We had Vegemite Smiths chips here but they didn't really take off...the only thing available now is "Bagel Crisps", haven't tried them yet...

Good song! and yes, I've heard that before - made "famous" in the song.

We have a number of US Candy specialty stores here selling things like Reese's bars, Hershey's, etc. - my kids love it!
 
Speaking of Vege/Marmite and things that people may or may not like, I got an odd hankering to re-watch The Time Tunnel, for some nostalgic Irwin Allen terrible-ness. I may not get much past the pilot though; we'll see.

Edit: And ... the pilot isn't that bad. I've only seen the first episode once, 50 years ago (and surprisingly remembered most of it). I'd forgotten about the re-use of some Forbidden Planet sets and graphics and that Michael Rennie plays the captain of the Titanic.

Edit 2: Mr Allen's explanation of things scientific are generally a lot of bollocks, but in this there is a (very) brief discussion of time that is sort of consistent with special relativity. I'm not sure if they just fluked that or if there was a science advisor.

I think Marmite's on the shelves here for expats mostly. I'm tempted to try it now and report back. :D Possibly in the Horror subforum? ;)

I too have become fond of imported candy. Due to watching Doctor Who, I became interested in Jelly Babies, which I now buy in bulk on Amazon. The only things I’ve specifically seen from Australia is a variety of soft licorice, which is very good...

I’ve started watching HBO’s “Watchmen” series, and I’m really impressed so far. The series seems to take place in the same universe as the graphic novels (which I haven’t read BTW), but at a later time. It mostly is set in an alternative Tulsa, Oklahoma, where the police go masked to prevent them and their relatives from being targeted by terrorist with the Seventh Kalvary. The latter are Rorschach-masked racist domestic terrorists who are like a cross between the Klu Klux Klan and ISIS. This highly dangerous and ruthless enemy has resulted in the police becoming highly dangerous and ruthless themselves. They routinely use both advanced psychological testing and old fashioned beating the hell out of suspects to extract information. An FBI agent asks one suspect if he feels his civil rights are being violated, which she then tells him she doesn't care about at all.

It’s got a complex plot which seems to be laid out a little at a time, with small side trips which explain aspects of this dark and different reality. It has some unexplained things that really tie in to the mythos, but seems odd to the uninitiated viewer (like the squid rain in episode one). I’m liking it a lot so far, and would recommend it to others. People familiar with the graphic novels or movie adaptation might get more out of the little Easter eggs, but this is not necessary for viewing.

I haven't reviewed the whole thread, so apologies if this has already been mentioned -- Glitch, Netflix, Australian series about people who rise from the dead. They're not zombies -- they're resurrected, without memories. Three seasons, not all questions were answered but that's okay. I think the point was to raise questions -- about life in general, sacrifice, vengeance, all that good stuff.

Yes, that series, and The Leftovers and The Returned -- Glitch is a bit less artful than those, but worth watching, I think. There were some silly plot contrivances but they were offset by some truly thought-provoking situations.

Yes: I do this. For my sins, I have Time Tunnel, Lost in Space, Land of the Giants & Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea all on DVD, which I dip into on occasion. I never got chance to watch them properly when I was young - their UK distribution was patchy, though Lost in Space & Land of the Giants got a rerun in the 1990's - early 2000's. Lost in Space is the one that has dated most horribly, in my opinion.

Ha ha! It is one of my life's highlights that my two oldest children were offered a jelly baby by Tom Baker when we met him. He was lovely, btw.

Yup - here too. The third episode was more like the Watchmen I was expecting, I think - but it's keeping my attention. Think it could be really good.

Also seen the pilot of Batwoman, which is as expected. It's not bad, but it's going to have to do a lot more to keep my attention, I think.

Next up - the first episode of For All Mankind, the alternate history which I'm really looking forward to. (And I have a bag of Marmite crisps to keep me going....) Thank you for all the comments on foodstuffs. btw - I love the way our threads meander! Made me grin a lot. :)
 
Lots of failed pilots many of them by Roddenberry I watched the "Questor Tapes" not long ago and quite enjoyed it with its Quaint special effects

Yes. Saw that one last year, I think.

For All Mankind is really good, btw. An alternate history where the Russians beat the USA to the first Moon landing by sneaking in between Apollo 10 & 11. Like an alternate From Earth to the Moon....
 
Reference major USA candy brands I was surprised that anyone would prefer the cheap end USA chocolate to that you get in Europe, tasted most in the things you might expect in something like Rolos or mars bars... there Are lots of quality usa brands from small local producers to large outfits like Ghiradelli in San Francisco... but don’t look for high quality chocolate from the likes of Hershey in its domestic consumption production.
