TV Series or Show You're Watching

what-you-leave.jpg

I just concluded my rewatch of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine with the excellent final episode, “What We Left Behind.” What a send off, everyone got a goodby, even Vic Fontaine on the holodeck. It was of course an action packed end to Season 7 with the Dominion War concluded along with everyones story lines. Now I will begin The Expanse Season 4.

I watched Mythic Quest this weekend. It's an Apple streaming show about a game company. I was thoroughly entertained. It's not going to win any awards, but I would recommend it. When I finished it, I wanted more.

BBC Confronting Holocaust Denial
I watched this interesting new BBC documentary on modern holocaust denial. It can be found on BBC iPlayer for the time being, but there is also an excellent quality 1080p mkv file on bittorrent.

David Baddiel interviews Deborah Lipstadt in her office where she and another man present question the necessity of a new documentary on holocaust denial since it would only put deniers in the spotlight. Baddiel justifies himself by explaining the different face of online holocaust denial today (in contrast to even 10 years ago).

Eventually he finds it necessary to come face to face with a denier himself. This results in a fruitless encounter with a well known denier whose name I can't recall. The man basically gives his 'greatest hits of denialism' monologue with Baddiel eventually foolishly being tempted to enter into a discussion. We are shown snippets of the encounter overlaid with commentary. The man also brought his guitar along on which he is allowed to perform two of his revolting antisemitic songs, one of which we get to hear a part of.

The one thing to take away from this encounter is how pointless it is to enter into a discussion with hardcore holocaust deniers and antisemites. Also pointless and frustrating was Baddiel's meeting with a Facebook employee, a slick, glib former Lib Dem politician, on the company's policy towards antisemitic activity on its platform. In the end an interesting documentary, but nothing you haven't seen before or at least read about.

I forgot to watch Picard last week, so I'll be viewing two episodes back-to-back tonight! :)

Watched episode 1 of Beforeigners last night and quite enjoyed it.

IMDB

"Beforeigners is about two persons who mysteriously appear in Oslo. They are the first of many from the past to seek refuge in present time. Seven years later the community is transformed. "

Sounds interesting, will have to check it out - thanks!

Thanks for the tip. :) I'm now watching Beforeigners episode 1. I like the premise better than The Leftovers'.

This show is hilarious. A Nordic detective with stone agers, Vikings and 19th-century stiffs.
Agree, just watched the first 2 and have grabbed 4 and 5 from the DirecTv for some odd reason HBO does not have #3 or #6 on the catch-up part of their presence on DirecTv and I am debating on waiting for them to turn up or skip 3 for now and watch 4 and 5...

HBO gave this absolutely no promo here perhaps because "everyone knows that only left-wing pinkos effete intellectual snobs watch stuff with subtitles in America. or so says the MAGAgot in the Whitehouse.

I downloaded a torrent with all 6 episodes. It's about 5GB. Subs are not professional but more than sufficient and hardcoded on top of the Norwegian broadcast.

I would not skip an episode if I were you.

And do research Tore Hund on Wikipedia. This is hilarious.

Thanks for the link... I am rather embarrassed by how thin my knowledge is of this period. My reading has been focused on the Viking period in British history from raiding coastal religious establishments to the effects of the Danelaw... and of course that paragon of historic film making staring the late Kirk Douglas

I think I downloaded the same torrent! Watched the first 2 episodes - very entertaining!

I do not think I had ever heard of Tore Hund myself.

I think the missing episodes on USA HBO is just an error and an example of how little they have promoted this series from their nordicHBO division... I will give them a few days to fix it the show just was stripped (all 6 shows run one after another) on HBO here on Feb 18... If I don't see any action from them and their laughable excuse of support service in the next few days, I will pester you for a link to the torrent site... I have not messed with torrents for over 10 years and switched to using a VPN to watch TV from around the world (Very good service from Tunnelbear )

Hunters epsiode 1. If you'd like to see a naked elderly Jewish lady gassed inside her own bathroom shower in 1984 Florida, this is for you.

Revolting.

The Guardian said: "Exec-produced by Jordan Peele, this Amazon series about a band of fascist slayers fetishises the horrors of the Holocaust, with stylised violence and a total lack of morals."

Clearly designed to shock, though that Guardian quote is quite damning, isn't it? "stylised violence and a total lack of morals." Wow.

I was reading yesterday that the series has been popular - perhaps Amazon's most-watched to date.
