Instead, finally got around to watching season 6 of Peaky Blinders. Great series. Perhaps not a great finale, but certainly up to scratch.

I've had this queued up on my recorder for a few months now. Think I'll give it a go after much shilly-shallying on my part.

watched episode 2 from House of dragon and it was good but less interesting than episode 1 in some ways, especially the main twist at the end (which I knew since while vague, I still do have some recollection of the written material at least as long as the general issues go) which was presented a bit underwhelmingly, not to speak of the failure of the king to brief his daughter on its subject in their earlier conversation where they seemed to arrive at a mutual understanding, failure that could easily be made in the root cause of the conflict that divisions that are to come; with a roughly 6 months internal time between first and second episode, there was a bit of scaterdness imho and am curious how this will be handled going forward as there must be easily 20 years between the now of the series and when the war starts

Started watching this strange Italian show, Christian. The blurb says he gains some new power, and I'm watching and waiting to see what happens. Seems he's a low-level thug/enforcer, and from what I can work out, I think he may just have got kind of stigmata and the power to raise the dead. Okay, looks a lot more interesting now.

For anyone intending to watch it, the subtitles are white without a background, but so far have been almost completely legible. Some pretty harsh chauvinistic language, but then, it is Italian.

(Incidentally, a bad series title as it is impossible to look for a YouTube of! You would not believe the things I got when I typed in "Christian Italian TV series"!!)

Okay well I'm half way in and I have to say the titles can get a bit hard to read, but damn if I'm not hooked on this thing. Highly recommended.

Pretty good so far after episode 1 - though I'm not a huge fan (only watched Peter Jackson's movies once, read the books once and no desire to go back to them). Scenery/cinematography is great!

Can't agree unfortunately. I love the books and really enjoyed the Lord of the Rings movies (but was distinctly underwhelmed by The Hobbit trilogy). The Rings of Power is much worse i'm afraid. Aye, scenery/cinematography is quite captivating as Westy said. But dialogue is awful, suspension of disbelief absent and the story not engaging. Tolkien dealt in archetypes, RoP deals in caricatures.

Reacted differently. Didn't see caricatures, except perhaps the intrepid warrior maiden. What I liked was the relatively low key introductions. A sense of adventure, but not yet doom.
As this series will probably go on for years, I gave it its own thread LOTR: The Rings of Power. Don't think that it should overwhelm this one.
If someone likes the GOT prequel better than I did, they might do the same thing for Who rides a dragon.

Sling is running a "Serenity" marathon today for the holiday. I'd forgotten how much I loved this show back then.

Yeah, that too. Firefly...Serenity...((shrug))...still the same great series.

watched episode 3 from House of dragon and it was better than episode 2, though the two-year jump and the 2/3-1/3 split between its 2 storylines subtracted a bit from coherence; the king still dominates most of the storyline even with his fairly weak but obstinate personality, while we started getting into the conflict between the princess and the queen that will be the main thread of the series, though in this episode the queen behaved much better than the princess who came out mostly as bratty; in the fighting thread, the over the top action with Jon Snow, Daemon Targaryen single-handedly killing loads of enemies and winning the battle continues the tradition from GOT, but at least we got to see Laenor riding a dragon

I thought this was the best episode so far; I feel it's gathering momentum now. And easily ahead of The Rings of Power for me.

There is supposed to be a remake in the works by Disney. But without Josh Whedon & possibly Nathan Fillion. Supposed to be geared towards the younger generation as well.

I don't hold very high hopes for it in that light.

watched episode 4 from House of dragon and it was the best episode to date imho, going through (contemporary not Westeros universe of course) minefields (possibility of incest/grooming, something that felt as close to marital rape as it gets etc) perfectly and both advancing the story but also being very entertaining from the first scene where a bored Rhaenyra has to watch a seemingly endless parade of suitors ranging from the decrepit to the very young make their case amid less than kind comments from the audience, to the compelling ending when king Viserys finally takes a stand; the time jump (about 2 years from the last episode and 4 from the premiere) is much less jarring here than in earlier episodes and pretty much all characters shine; from the looks of it episode 5 is last with the current actresses as princess and queen and hopefully the new leads will be as compelling as their younger versions; lots of cool touches - the physical disintegration of the king, the wildness and unpredictability of Daemon and finally Rahenyra for once not acting like a tantrum throwing teenager and enjoying herself.

ROBIN OF SHERWOOD

This British TV show from the mid 80s was recently repeated here in UK and I've started the first few episodes.



Initial thoughts.

I like the mystical elements, fairly effective fight scenes , good production values , lovey location work some of which was shot in Northumberland. I suspect the producers may have been influenced by John Boorman's EXCALIBUR [ which i love ] .

A grittier cousin to the more recent British show MERLIN.
