Same here. Taking them one episode at a time.... but I enjoyed it. Talk about setting things up though.... lots of that for later episodes.

Just started the 'War of the Worlds" series. Starts out in France, so english subtitles for quite a bit of the pilot episode, then segues into mostly english dialogue.

First episode was watchable though. All of Season 1 is available, so we'll likely just watch it as time allows.

I've seen that. It's decent, and goes places Wells would never have gone. Certainly different. Worth watching, I would say.

While the rest of you are watching the latest stuff, I've been watching the first four episodes of the 1973 ITV documentary series The World at War, possibly the best visual treatise on WWII ever made. I've seen it before and it's still just as sobering and informative as it ever was.

It is an impressive series, but for me, the narration was what put it over the top. Furthermore in 1973 lots of the participants were still on the green side of the sod It was only 30 odd years in the past

Agreed, Windy. Apart from the war itself, it's also a lesson about outdated old men making bad decisions that cost the lives of millions. As I said before, sobering stuff.

While the rest of you are watching the latest stuff, I've been watching the first four episodes of the 1973 ITV documentary series The World at War, possibly the best visual treatise on WWII ever made. I've seen it before and it's still just as sobering and informative as it ever was.

Used to watch that show all the time.

Let's not forget the dramatic, doomy music, the burning away of the logo and that unforgettable photo of the Jewish child. Absolutely harrowing, stayed with me all my life up to now, and I think always will. Plus, having Sir Larry narrate it was just the icing on an already extremely tasty cake. Without question, THE very best WW2 documentary series ever.

First episode of the Quantum Leap sequel was solid, although I'm not hugely fond of amnesia as a plot device pretty much ever.

Also, Mason Alexander Park steals every scene they are in.

They were pretty good in Sandman, too, of course. Have yet to see the new Quantum Leap appear on this side of the Atlantic yet. I love the original, though - think Scott Bakula is underrated - so I am interested. Even if it is ANOTHER remake!

There have been a lot of good WWI and WWII documentaries on Netflix along with some surprisingly good movies made by them. Liberator is a very good miniseries done in a unique way that I thought was a no go for me but the story is great and it worked for me after all.

Started watching Hide and Seek, a Ukrainian crime mystery thriller about kidnapped children. Gripping stuff. The difference between the Eastern Bloc police and those in the west is staggering, if this is authentic. Dreary and miserable, not a smile in sight, corruption everywhere, rampant sexism and victims being interviewed with all the tenderness and subtlety of a swift kick in the teeth. Recommended.

I thought the first episode of Andor was just too mundane and slow. If one didn't know it was in the Star Wars universe and judged by usual standards, its fairly pathetic. No originality in the vision of the future, no originality in any aspect of the plot & indeed close to no use of future tech at all. Even the original Star Wars had a few things, like the funky chess battle.

They are basically taking for granted that you'll watch episode two just because its a Star Wars show, and accordingly didn't feel the need to give any actual reason to do so.

Not going to bother in the hope it improves. I haven't even finished the better Star Wars shows, which either brought something new to the table or at least felt like Star Wars shows. For example, the first episode or two of the Obi Wan Kenobi show also wasn't terribly exciting, but it believably filled a plot gap. Ewan McGregor is enough of an actor that I felt like he was a younger Kenobi. Watching it I felt like ok, this could have been what happened. The show didn't excite me, not sure I'll get back to it, but it seemed like they did what they set out to do. By contrast, Andor assumes you've watched the trailer, because episode 1's only visible plot is a brother looking for a sister. Maybe if I rewatched Rogue One that would mean something to me.

Same thing with the Mandalorian and the Bobba Fette show. They added something to the Star Wars universe for me, and they have some charm, especially the Mandalorian, which for me almost has a sort of Firefly vibe (if that makes any sense at all). Definitely not hating on the Star Wars shows in general. Andor was just a WTF is the point of watching, because they didn't bother to try and prove it was worth watching.

Currently in the Hobbit household, we're debating which series we like more: House of the Dragon or Rings of Power. Obviously we can like both, and generally do, but personally I prefer HotD to Rings (which I was surprised by, frankly.) The rest of the family think otherwise.

Main complaint about HotD is that it's nothing we've not seen before - to quote the rest of the household, "Oh, here's a nasty death, here's a fight scene, here's a wedding," etc.

I think that it has a bit more pace than Rings. Rings looks gorgeous but feels slow to me. Lots of portentous language but little really happening. I did find my attention wandering....

Also caught up with the first Quantum Leap episode. Not bad, though there are things to improve on. For what it's worth, I pretty much agree with JenniferP in post 1710 above.

Must admit I'm thinking Andor's OK but fairly average so far (watched the three episodes to date) - but will keep watching it.

I've actually given up on Rings for now (basically for the reasons Hobbit's mentioned).

We are in the RoP camp. I think it is somewhat slow right now, but I feel like it is building up.

No HotD right now. Mostly because I gave all my cable channels the boot. We are only streaming Prime & Sling currently. Neither of which are carrying HotD. Otherwise, I'd probably watch it.
