We might be headed to 1924 with the just announced Season 2

Looked for it on Paramount, but all we could find was 2 minute trailer / preview. Will look again tonight...maybe missed something.
 
Probably a bit naff, but part of the Season tradition in this household is to watch the six episodes of The Box of Delights over the six days running up to Christmas.

Should be on paramount+ (the streaming service of CBS/Paramount) as I think it's exclusive for that; it's kind of confusing as Yellowstone is on Paramount (TV) but not on Paramount+ (streaming) as is on Peacock (NBC) streaming (at least after the season ends or such), but I remember 1883 was that way (on Paramount + streaming only)

Here in the UK they're both on Paramount+. I really must get around to Yellowstone - so many people have told me how much they like it! :)
 
Might be because we have paramount + through Prime instead of Paramount. Still checking into it. No biggie though. 1863 was an okay series. A bit silly in parts, but certainly watchable. 1923 looks to be the same.

But if I can't get it through my current streaming services, I won't sign up for another. Just on Paramount currently because of "Tulsa King"...which is a really good show. Might very well be Stallone's best ever.
 
Finished watching Avenue 5 season 2; it was better than I thought it was shaping up to be. Not sure if there'll be a season 3: they literally
torpedoed it at the end!

Also just finished Strike: Troubled Blood. I have to say, I'm no fan at all of Rowling (though I commend her rise to fame and fortune) but by god she can write a tremendous murder story! Every Strike I've watched has been breath-taking and had an amazing twist and this is no exception. It's always nice to see Holliday Grainger too...

I just started Tim Burton’s comedy/horror series Wednesday on Netflix. It’s loaded with dry sarcastic humor delivered deadpan by the titular character played by Jenna Ortega. After an unfortunate incident at her regular school, Wednesday Addams gets set to Nevermore Academy, in the town of Jericho, Vermont, which is a private school for monstrous outcasts. She is trying to escape this situation when her latent psychic abilities embroil her in murders occurring at or around the school. Seems pretty fun!
 
As it is Christmas, have been rewatching these...

In non-related Xmas news, I've also been revisiting my youth by watching Season One of these.


Nicely scrubbed up on Bluray, and actually not bad so far - but Season 1 is before things get really silly....
 
Just finished watching The Traitors. Great reality show on BBC, shows how trustworthy people can seem when they're the ones you should be watching. Enjoyed it a lot.
 
Watching 1923 now. Season, Episode 1. Takes up Dutton Family saga (Yellowstone) 40 years after the events 1883.

A searing drought has all the ranchers attempting to move the combined herds up into the high country until, hopefully, the fall rains. Unfortunately, they are in conflict with Sheepherders.

Good first episode...looks like a keeper.

I just started the new The Witcher Blood Origin limited series on Netflix, and it’s interesting so far. It seems it is a prequel to the “main” Witcher series, and consists of only four episodes. In the first episode we are introduced to three clans of elves who have been at war for a thousand years. This longstanding conflict is brought to an end through treachery rather than diplomacy. A band of seven outcasts seems to be forming to set things right, or at least to exact some righteous revenge. Three of these meet up and begin their journey in the first episode.

I guess this is our first glimpse of the World of the Witcher without Henry Cavill. Michelle Yeoh is probably the biggest headliner of this new series, she stars as an elven martial artist named Scian who joins the band. The events of this prequel are set 1,200 years before the main series, so it will be interesting to see how this side quest ties into the history. Reportedly, the series will lead up to the creation of the first Witcher.
 
Tulsa King, Slow House, Yellowstone and Bad Sisters are what I'm watching at the moment - and they're all good!
 
Started watching new Icelandic murder drama Black Sands. Got halfway through and realised I hated it. Didn't like any of the characters, story made little sense and couldn't see where it was going, and frankly I wasn't prepared to waste any more time on it.

While I was watching that, one was mentioned called Ragdoll, which I'm now watching. I can't say it's blown me away from episode one, but that's as far as I am at the moment, so I guess we'll see.

I’m a couple of episodes into the FX adaptation of Octavia Butler’s novel Kindred. This is a time travel story of a sort, where Dana, a young modern day African-American writer moves to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams. Shortly after arriving there, she finds herself inexplicably in the Antebellum South. She seems to be going back and forth in time, and as of yet there’s no explanation of how or why this is happening.

I have to say, this is a hard show to watch. The juxtaposition of the modern world and the time of chattel slavery is jarring, and Ms. Butler meant this to be the case. This first series is reportedly based only on the first portion of the book, and the show runners have a plan for future seasons if the show is renewed. It is currently available for streaming on Hulu.
 
Watched all of Andor and most of Hawkeye.
Hawkeye was quite good, particularly in the characterization of the lead by the writers and by the actor, Jeremy Renner. He is good enough to carry a show without even the need for superhero whizzbang (as shown in more than a dozen non-superhero roles.) As I am myself an old guy, I appreciated the wear and tear that he showed as a geezer in an action role. I'll finish it next time that I am at my daughter's with Disney+ access.
Andor was scary in its detail and money spent (to good effect). Well acted, they pretty well avoided the tropes of most action extravaganzas where the hero(es) are unstoppable. Still pretty far fetched (it is the Star Wars universe after all) but it was not all about tech or mystical swordsman.
 
I was right about Ragdoll: terrible, with an awful ending that worryingly sets up a sequel, which I have no intention of watching. I only forced myself to get to the end by sheer bloody-mindedness, but half the time I had no clue what the hell was going on. You were dropped into a situation with which it seemed the writer expected you to be already familiar, even though nothing - nothing - was explained other than the one opening scene, and the rest in flashbacks that went precisely nowhere. Absolutely awful.

Moved on to Il Grande Gioca (The Great Game), an Italian drama about the cut-throat, backstabbing wheeling and dealing inside Italian football. So far, I really love it. Something along similar lines to Senorita 89, which I really enjoyed.
