What comics are you all reading? What do you think?

Cry Havoc - really smart, modern werewolf book.
Swamp Thing - nice old school horror comic/Swamp Thing vibe.
Obi-wan and Anakin - another strong Star Wars comic, even though i hate films this relates to.
Mockingbird - smart, quirky, maybe too clever for its own good - interested to see where it goes.

I was tempted to get Paper Girls but ran out of money.

I bought the 1st volume of The Sixth Gun and it was a good weird west series. I'm not a big western guy, but it was a good read. I liked the narration approach and storytelling in the art.

I've been enjoying the new Power man and Iron fist. I like the new designs and the tone. I only read a few issues here and there of the old series and I can't remember the old vibe, but I like the slightly-wacky Iron fist and only-sane-man Power man dynamic.

I've been reading Symmetry by Matt Hawkins. It's maybe a bit too obvious so far, but I quite like the realism of the drawings and characters. So, may stick with it.

My favorite comic artist and author was Carl Banks and his stories set in the Duckberg written in the 1950s
and i never really clued into the modern graphic novel genre.
But I have been buying the kindle version of the Rivers of London comics by by Ben Aaronovitch and Drawn by Andrew Cartmel
the first series from last year Body Work was a disappointment for me in that it put faces that did not match the faces that my imagination has given the characters. I had to reread the books to get my imagined faces back into my head (the fact that I did so by this time listening to the amazing Audible unabridged versions helped a lot)

So I decided to give the new series Rivers of London: Night Witch #1 was out a few weeks back and this month we have Rivers of London: Night Witch #2 and shortly Rivers of London: Night Witch #3 out on May 18 and #4 on June15 and #5 out on July 13.

So farI am enjoying this story much more than the first one perhaps because I can not not be bothered by the different from my imagination faces this time. The drawing and painting also seems more assured this time as well

What is behind all the different versions of covers in the printed version of these comics? are they trying to get punters in the shops to buy the same issue twice with the different cover designed to confuse them?

I am buying the Carl Barks Library and the Don Rosa Library books from Fantagraphics when they are released and am enjoying them very much. I grew up with many of the Barks comics and they bring back so many fond memories. Don Rosa is a genius, simply put, and I am always in the mood for a (re)read of a Don Rosa story .

Otherwise I am subscribing to Hulk and Daredevil in paper form. I have been buying these titles for around 25 years, so although especially the latter has been mediocre at best for the last 5 years, I will probably never stop reading these. On Comixology I am enjoying Alan Moore's Providence, Snyder's Batman (which has sadly just ended), Hickmans East of West, Ruckas Lazarus and a couple of Valiant titles + FAR too many different series and minis, when they are on offer.

I don't think they're trying to confuse anyone, but if that created more sales I'm sure they wouldn't be sad. I think they are trying to appeal to collectors who can sometimes be tempted to collect based upon a rare cover alone. Basically speculators. This mentality created a economic bubble in the 1990s which damaged the comics industry in the U.S.

I collect comic for art and story and have no interest in speculation, so it irritates me.

The best bang for you buck would be digital downloads if you're all modern (unlike me) or collections, usually referred to as trade paperbacks (TPBs or trades) in the comic world. They usually collect things in story arcs.

Thanks for the Don Rosa reminder.... when I first bought comics they cost a dime (a dime made of real silver but still just a dime... I wonder how the kids today manage to develop a comics habit? they can't read them in a library after all... I guess they can haunt yard sales and such but they seem to me to have been priced out of their target market.

I buy the vast majority of my comics digitally, and single issues are often on special for a dollar, especially the first issue. So, that's not bad. The comics I follow are usually $2.99 per issue, but DC comics and the like are $3.99 which does seem quite a lot for a kid. What kind of pocket money do kids get these days anyway? It's probably loads, isn't it, and I'd be horrified if I knew.

Yes, you can get a lot of cheap comics on Comixology, if you buy them at sales. Otherwise, they are very expensive. I have a sneaking suspicion that comics are not safe from illegal downloads, but I do not know widespread a phenomenon it is.

My Young Man has been sending me copies of Shadowglass by Aly Fell as they come out (published by Dark Horse). It's an Elizabethan story featuring John Dee, and I've been enjoying it - I already like his art work (he was the artist for the Steampunk Tarot) - but sadly the comics are being discontinued. There wll be a graphic novel version of the full story in the next few months, and I understand that the remaining issues are available online.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: It's is reusing the original characters including Tommy the Green Ranger. The green ranger for some reason is being heard likely telepathically by Rita Repulsa for the purpose to plant negative ideas on his head, plus create hostility and violence .
It is a decent series.

Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps Rebirth: Issue 1
It's marvelous to see Sinestro as what I understand the Ruler of the Universe. No doubt it'll leave no doubt why he's viewed as a super villain, along with why he's to destructive to be a Just Ruler.
Hal Jordan broke the Prison the Green Lanterns were in releasing them plus I believe the Guardians.
Hal Jordan is shown using the power ring transforming back into a Green Lantern, then flying as no doubt he'll take the fight to Sinestro along with other super villains.

I can't wait for the next issue which is issue 2.

Superman Rebirth and JL Rebirth are both great series. I'm enjoying Superman and Lois having a son. I was hoping to see Shazam in Rebirth.

Anyone reading the new Civil War II - I am enjoying it. I thought the first was was only OK and the movie was way better even if it did not have as many super heroes in it.

I finally read all of Preacher, since I've been enjoying the series and never finished it after my first encounter (probably twelve or more years ago). To be honest... it wasn't as much fun in the close as it had been earlier on, but not bad over all. I think I wanted (spoiler, I guess) less of a happy ending for all (or most of the all, anyway). No regrets though, and the series is great so far.

Angel issue 1 of a 4 issues miniseries
I'm amazed at how much Angel and the characters resemble the characters visually.
It really didn't seem like a long comic, Angel defeated a monster, rescued a kidnapped kid so happy ending, another huge monster that looks like it's pure flames appears unexpectedly with it ending on a cliffhanger. A decent read and I can't wait to read issue 2 where defeating the fire monster will be very challenging.
Ghost Rider: Issue 5
This is the Dan Ketch 90s series. The power of the hellcycle is shown as police as Ghost Rider escapes, persons armed with guns start murdering people but lucky for the bystanders the Punisher shows up starts shooting at the armed criminals forcing them to retreat. Punisher uses a kickass memorable to 1 of the murderers when asking for information to convince him to give the honest answer.
The Punisher gives information about 1 of his guns, along with finds the illegal guns seller.
It's revealed why a specefic super villain is selling guns along with a specefic goal he wants accomplished.
Ghost Rider fights Punisher, and they fall into a abandoned warehouse where they are surrounded by armed bad guys along with seeing the illegal guns seller.
So also a cliffhanger that has me looking forward to seeing the team up of 2 great badasses the Punisher and Ghost Rider fighting the bad guys and the super villain that I don't doubt won't be running from the fight.
