What does your writing space look like.

The last fifteen minutes were my most productive of the day. After writing a whopping 400+ words, I'm "taking a break" to do something frivolous, naming posing the above question.

There are a lot of new additions here for me. I'm really happy with my used, $20 file cabinet that allows me to keep all my hard copies and research organized. The paper shredder is handy in that it prevents me from dithering. Once a draft is shredded, I have no choice but to move on. The only downside to the shredder is that one of my idiot cats has decided it's a great place to snooze so I keep it powered off except for when it's in use. Lastly is the, new to me, second monitor which is large enough and high enough to improve my posture while I type.

So, what does your work area look like and do you have any improvements on your wish list?

Simple elegance. Do you use your laptop ON your lap? If I try that the tops of my thighs get hot and my computer starts to pout. I do have a cheap lap desk that helps to prevent the computer over heating but it's large enough that my tom cat think there is room enough for them. There isn't.

I sit crosslegged or lay on the floor, my laptop is slightly above floor level and I type on an external wired keyboard so I can whip it around.

I've been through 4 keyboards just this year though because I keep either stepping on them or leaving them to melt in front of the heater.

I'd post a picture but I lost my phone-charger.

My writing space is a MacBook Air I got in 2010 - best computer I ever had - and a moleskine notebook... And any location I can get some peace and quiet for 5 minutes.

I've always like the idea of writing out on the deck, but the lighting/monitor wash out always gives me a headache. Nice HP stream

I've been using word for most of my short stories and scrivener for longer works. I miss my longer stories but I need to write the short ones so I can have something to shop around.

I keep meaning to go out on the patio and sprinkle the table with sunflower seeds to see if I can convince the chickadees to keep me company.

How can you even see the screen in sunlight like that? No way that would work for me unless it were an e-ink screen.

Scrivener! My long lost friend.

I've been using word for most of my short stories and scrivener for longer works. I miss my longer stories but I need to write the short ones so I can have something to shop around.

I have actually been using it for short stories as well. I find the character and settings templates along with using the cork board give me all the planning tools I need for a shorter work, and then I pound out a first draft all within the same card/document. I then start a new card for a 2nd draft and it makes referring back to the 1st draft a breeze. Best $50 ever spent.

Sunglasses and an umbrella usually work. If not, then I change directions. Make sure the sun is to my side. Not behind or in front. It's best when it's midday, because then the sun is right over top of the umbrella and it doesn't matter.

I just like to be outside, so I deal with it.

I understand. Our basement is now the music area. There's two drum sets, four guitars, two bass guitars and two keyboards down there, with a large assortment of amps. The big drum set (the third) is at his band's studio space.
