What games are you playing?

Hmm... I LOVE Kotor, but my computer just can't handle it. It handles Unreal Tournament 2004 very well, though. I rock at first-person shooters. Unreal is the best, in my opinion, and I just don't know why at the moment. I beat it like 500 times and it's still kind of fun! My computer let go of drive D and now all my games save Quake III Arena are gone, so they have to get re-installed before I start-em up again. So, at the time being I am playing Q3. On the sony, however, I just got done with Spiderman 2 (Awesome :D ) and Star Wars Battlefront (Even better  ), so I'm satisfied.

Right now I'm playing Metroid Prime on the nintendo. :D I got stuck on a hardish level ages ago, and left it to the way-side, but since the sequels coming out, I thought I'd better dust it off and finish it. LOVE that game. :)

Finished Halo 2 on heroic. Now ready to explore the multiplayer features of the game.

Oddly enough, I've begun playing BETRAYAL AT KRONDOR. I missed the game when it came out originally, and recently I bought a used copy through eBay.

But I've stopped playing the game for a while, so I can familiarize myself with the game universe by reading Feist's books. I finished Magician: Apprentice two days ago, and I'm about halfway through Magician: Master. I'll finish the Riftwar Saga, then go on to the two MIDKEMIA books and the LEGACY series. Then I'll begin the computer game again.

I'm back on a major NWN kick, playing online, replaying the single-player campaigns and trying out some of the amazing mods out there.

Addicted to Football Manager 2005. Trying to complete Pandora Tomorrow. Lookig forward to getting a hold of the Pirates! remake.

I could probably say something that you'll hate me for so I think I'll refrain from doing so :) There was a book Krondor: Betrayal that came out that is pretty much the story found in the video game. Haven't read any of the Legacy series but the story of the video game actually takes place pretty soon after the Riftwar Saga. I don't know if there is any book in the Legacy series that will shed more illuminating light on Jimmy, the Crawler, the Knighthawks, and the Thieves Guild, I think there might be one, but from what I know finishing with Darkness at Sethanon then going back to the game is probably the best course. The events of Prince of the Blood and The King's Buccaneer occur after Betrayal at Krondor. The deeper story involving Jimmy's background probably starts with hints in Betrayal at Krondor too.

I got Full Spectrum Warrior for christmas and have been hooked ever since. It's a Urban combat simulator that was orignally designed for the military but the developers took that engine and turned it into a game. It's really immersive and manages to balance the quiet tense moments of moving around a dense urban environment with explosive action. I actually fell off my couch ducking a RPG round that whizzed past a corner my team was hiding behind. Think about watching "Blackhawk Down" and being able to jump in and control the soldiers, thats what it's like in a nutshell. There's nothing more satisfying than pinning an enemy down with supressive fire and then moving your second team around and taking them out from some side alley.

The only negative is the clunky controls on the Xbox. It can get really frustrating moving the crusor around the battlefield in the heat of the action. It's so slow and inaccurate compaired to a PC where you can just point and click with a mouse. It just came out on PC too so I am seriously thinking of switching platforms. But it might take away from the cinematic feel of the game to see it on a small computer screen. And the more you play the game the more you get used to the controls.

So if you like military shooters like "Desert Combat" and "Operation Flashpoint" as well as RTS style games, definately checkout this game. :)

Rome: Total War right now, it's taking me time to get into, but once I get the hang of it I think I'm going to really like it. All the reading about battles in books has been great when playing this game, I get to test things and see if they work, great fun. :)

Just now i'm playing a bit of Final Fantasy VII, Crimson Sea 2, and The Battle for Middle Earth :D

I've played the Demo version, but haven't yet bought the official game. I'm too busy doing other stuff just now (including reading). I really liked Shogun: Total War though, did you play that at all? If you did, how do the two compare?

No, I never played Shogun, but I'm sure Rome is just bigger and better in every way. :)

Rome: Total War being the latest installment is unsurprisingly bigger and better in nearly every way. Still I wouldn't characterize it as being too large a difference. They are far more similar than they are different. I tend to play the overall strategy game and auto-resolve battles and I think the move away from Risk-like pieces and improvement on the sprite like interface of a Europa Universalis is a big improvement; but the old way of doing things despite lacking a lot of strategic and tactical dimension of the new way, was less time consuming. The strength of the Total War series though is really in its battle mode and although I haven't used it save for the tutorial it strikes me as pretty similar to what came before. The intro of castle sieges probably is a big advancement but I haven't tried it yet.

You're missing out on a lot of fun Bond. Especially considering about 80% of the game data is the real-time battlefield engine.
Often a battle that would be lost by "auto-resolve" can be won by playing it out on the field, particularly when heavily outnumbered.

I'm more of a big picture turn-based strategy guy thus my partiality for games like Civilization 2 and Europa Universalis. Rome: Total War fills that role much better than its predecessors as well as being an army against army battle gamer's dream. The technology tree though strikes me as rather boring. Haven't really tried the battle mode yet because I want to complete a campaign and unlock the other factions.

LOTR: Return of the King (PS2) - I love this game, the movie sequences are brilliant.

The Incredibles (PS2) - Only because my son gets stuck, it is actually quite good fun, and great that you get to play the whole family, I particularly enjoy the DASH levels, weaving in-between cars and flying off ramps to catch the school bus!

The Battle for Middle Earth (PC) - As of tonight when I get home, as I just nipped out to get it from WH SMITH. It is my first foray into battle sims, and I can't wait.

Would you let us know how the Battle for Middle Earth plays please, because my brother and I are quite interested in it.
