What games are you playing?

You know, the more I play Arkham Asylum, the more I notice the flaws. The character animations for anyone who isn't Batman tend to be a bit odd (Ever 'properly' watched Harley Quinn?), and the thugs do some really weird things in combat. I've punched one and he spun up into the air and landed on his head. Weird. I punched another one next to a glass pane (In the corridor next to the room where you have to use batarangs to turn on the three fans to rescue one of the doctors in the Medical Wing?) and his arm stuck in it, so he was dangling from this glass pane by a hand. Also weird.

I'm finding the combat to be pretty smooth still, but I think it's very easy to go into it too quickly and ruin your combos. I'm also using the 360 controller, and it works perfectly for the game.

But still no AC Collector's Edition for me. Oh, the problems of being a PC-exclusive gamer :(

Installing Assassin's Creed right now. I've had it for awhile, and finally decided to give it a try.

I have found gaming heaven - Star Wars the Force Unleashed. OMFG! I even bought the super fun lightsaber to park my Wii controller in. Force Lightning -Need I say more. I am early on in the game but its the most fun I have had in ages with a video game. The Wii has taken it to another level for me with being able to swing my lightsaber. I am one happy Star Wars geek. :D

It's funny you should mention this. I played the heck out of this game when it first came out. One evening, the wife quietly snuck downstairs to figure out what in the world I was up to. The room is arranged so one's back is to the hallway from upstairs. After winning a boss battle, I heard clapping from behind me and some snickering. Turning about and frowning, I demanded, "What?"

Then the wife said (and I want to apologize to anyone on the site who may be offended at her choice of words), "It was like watching some kind of retarded ninja." Grrr, mock not the force you will, shrill wench.

I've actually ventured back into Middle-Earth with Lord of the Rings Online, which is why I've been lurking with no activity for a few days, and why what little activity I've had has been sporadic.

It's fairly... Hm. I want to say fun, but it depends. My name-sake, Loerwyn, is a Guardian (I roleplay her as a shield-maiden of Rohan. Yay!) and she focuses on taking damage. That means long kills and long quest times. I like playing her, but she can be quite exhausting to play. My other character is an Elf called Arabelraen (Bit of a mouthful, I know) and she's a Hunter, and I absolutely love questing on her as I just fly through kills and quests. They're levels 18 and 21 respectively after two or three days, so I'm making progress of a sort.

It's not all sunshine and roses, though. I'm finding the restricted content of the game a little irritating at times as some makes no sense, but unlike some similar free-to-play games, there's a fair amount of content for free players. I'm a returning player, so my account is slightly different to others, and it means I have access to some things that a new player wouldn't (Such as my horse from an item pack! Yay!). It just seems a bit petty at times, though. I used to have six bags when I first played, as did everyone, but when I returned I had just four and had to unlock the other two. Thankfully Turbine gave me enough points to do so, which wasn't too bad.

You get titles for achieving certain things in the game, such as doing X quests in Location Y, and there's one for not dying. I was about 1000 XP (Not much) from Level 20, which would give me the next title as I hadn't died yet. I accidentally attracted too many enemies on my Hunter and died. So close! :(

I picked up Star Ocean: The Last Hope the other day for the PS3. I played it a couple of years back on the Xbox, but it disappeared somewhere, and this was fairly cheap second hand. It's a pretty decent game, although the need to level grind is a little frustrating at times. I'm also only 7 or so hours into the game and not really finding much happening in the story - it seems to be a long and drawn out affair. Still, I'm enjoying it more than I did FFXIII.

To friggin funny! My kids are dueling and hold their own against me, much to my chagrin.

Before I knew it I had spent 3 hours after work playing Space Marine with my buds and had a really good time doing it. I still wish I could play as an Ork, it would be nice to be able to prefer to not be chaos in the matchmaker also but whatever.

That single player campaign on Space Marine is excellent. The combat is really fun especially when you get to some of the later on weapons like the thunder hammer and meltagun. The whole thing just oozes atmosphere too. I've taken tons of screenshots just because some of the sets are really breathtaking. The story is about what you'd expect from a 40K game but in a good way. You know it's going to be a lot of "We must purge this planet of all Xenos for the glory of the Emperor," but the specifics are where it gets interesting. I started playing last night and only just managed to stop myself around 1 am. I hear the campaign is kind of short which sucks because I don't want it to end!

Well, I've decided to call it quits on Lord of the Rings Online, but I'll probably play until the end of this week to try and not completely waste my month of subscription. I subscribed a bit early and on a whim (Story of my life, there!), and as usual I got bored pretty much the day after I did that. It's not that it's bad, but it's just not engaging me nor really doing anything for me, and I got a bit sucked into it and it disrupted a lot for me (i.e. wake up, log on, play, log off, sleep, repeat), so I think quitting is a good thing.

Chances are I'll be trying to finish Batman: Arkham Asylum again soon. Not sure when I'll get Arkham City, but I'm looking forward to it.

Seen what I want for my birthday, however. Anno 2070: Collector's Edition. Big art book, the game, two CDs of Dynamedion-composed soundtracks? Amazing :D

Gone back to the DLC on LA Noire after playing Dead Island for all of a day and getting bored with it...

Solaar
needs something new

(tl;dr Deus Ex HR is cool, Dark Souls will be the best game ever)

Well, Deus Ex:Human Revolution turned out to be a worthy addition to the DE series, though it certainly had some flaws. Played it twice so far, first time no kill/no alarm, and then I just shot everything to pieces in my second run. All out attack was pretty fun, but I liked my stealth/pacifist run more. Which is why I was annoyed (spoiler?) about the way they handled the boss fights. I they force me to kill them I'd have at least liked to have a few different options on how to defeat them. (not to mention the fact that the bosses feel like nothing more than more powerful versions of ordinary enemies). The biggest problem I had with the game though, is the ending...in a game all about your choices/decisions I'd have thought the choices I made through out the game would actually affect the way the game ended. *sigh*

I think that might sound a bit more negative than I meant it to be, as I loved the game immensely. Looking forward to Thief 4 and the next (?) DE project.

Also, Dark Souls came out in Japan today, and with under 2 weeks till the western release I tried to ignore any articles about it, but I managed to last only about an hour or so. Didn't think it was possible, but after reading peoples thoughts on it so far, I'm looking forward to it more than ever. I mean, Demon's Souls may be the best game I've ever played, and from what I've read today everyone seems to agree the "sequel" is waaay better. I may have expected this from people who've played the first game, but xbox sites hyping it over Skyrim is a bit of a surprise and only makes the wait harder...Why isn't it October already!?

I played through all of the latest New Vegas DLC, Lonesome Road, today and my thoughts are quite conflicting.

It wasn't bad, but like Dead Money and Honest Hearts, I felt it wasn't as good as it could be. You spend a lot of time running through same-coloured scenery shooting the same tiny selection of enemies, end up having to drop most of your loot at one point, and stand around for ages whilst some super gravelly-voiced bloke waffles at you in some overly convoluted manner. The difficulty of the game seemed to spike, too, but I'm half-wondering if the game set itself to a different difficulty.

I mean it was, like all the previous DLC, a lot of content for a small fee, but it dragged. I also felt that the story for the DLC started off well, but after listening to Ulysses waffle for what felt like hours, I realised I hadn't a clue what on Earth he was talking about nor what the point of the DLC was beyond meeting this guy who followed you. It seemed so... wobbly, I guess. The Father Elijah plot to Dead Money and Old World Blues was stronger, and Honest Hearts (Which I didn't do properly) added some nice background and helped with understanding Caesar's Legion as well as this myth that was in the Mojave Wasteland. But Lonesome Road? I think it just didn't make all that much sense to me.

But that loot issue really got me, as did the new 'creature'-type enemy. One bugged and took me (I was ~Level 46 at this point) from full health to zero in maybe three seconds as he bugged in VATS and attacked me at a ridiculous speed. And they're just irritating in general.

A bit of an old one, but hey, I like it: Burning Rangers

And using my new analogue controller, I enjoying it more ;)

Absolutely nothing! , having played the crap out of Mass Effect 2 to all desirable possibilities. Now waiting for Elder Scrolls: Skyrim in November to tide me over til March, when Mass Effect 3 comes out.

I'm still dabbling with casual games. After some hidden object mysteries, I've tried Roads of Rome I and II, and now I'm almost finished with My Kingdom for the Princess III. I'll be interested to find more titles like these, I thij they're called time management now. I also tried to reinstall my old copies of Caesar III and Pharaoh, but they don't want to work on Windows 7 :(

Algernon, you'll want to check out Big Fish Games for your casual games, and GOG will have games like Caesar III for you and they should work on Win 7, or you can use the GOG forums for help.

Constructive post time! I've dabbled with a few games recently, and I'll sum a few things up.

Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures
Complete waste of time. It's locked down tighter than an industrial chastity belt unless you drop £4 a month to play a bunch of Star Wars-themed casual games. No thanks. I could spend that £4 and get some fun stuff for my iPod.

LEGO Universe
If that's "free-to-play", then I'm a singing turtle with a hair-band. By free-to-play, it means glorified demo with no time-limit.

Fallout: New Vegas
After finishing with Katie, at least in terms of me being bothered to continue with her, I've made Sarah (Yes, as in Sarah Beauhall) and I'm trying a route I haven't before in that I'm going to use melée weapons primarily. So far it's really fun. I've bought the two latest content packs, Gun Runner's Arsenal and Courier's Stash, and already the latter has made an improvement to the start. One of the packs has a special machete that is absolutely amazing and really made a difference.

Civilization V
Not got a lot to say about it except it's good.
