What games are you playing?

Finished Assassin's Creed III, I thought the story and character(s) were great but the game play was monotonous and sadly, a little boring. I bought COD: MW2 but also picked up Sniper Elite V2, Sleeping Dogs, and Medal of Honor: Warfighter. So, instead of jumping straight into COD, I chose to start up Sniper Elite V2. Gotta say it is quite challenging. Next week is Hitman as well so lots of great games coming up.

I also heard that Rainbow Six: Patriots is being pushed back and is possibly going to wait to be released on the next generation console.

I feel somewhat out of date, but I'm playing through Final Fantasy IX when I have time to sit in front of a TV and Final Fantasy IV when I'm on a handheld....of course, I have little time for either right now, so progress is snail-paced.

Best change in Call of Duty - completing objectives (like capturing the flag, or securing a position) now count towards scorestreaks (they aren't called killstreaks anymore). That's awesome for someone like me who isn't great at shooting people and actually plays the objective, rather than randomly running around shooting people.

EDIT I played quite a bit this weekend, and another change I really like is the complete customization of loadouts you get with Black Ops 2. You are allowed 10 things, including weapons, attachments and perks. If you only want a couple of perks, ytou can have another attachment for your primary. If you really want an extra perk, give up the attachment on your secondary weapon. Me, I rarely use a secondary so I give it up completely and take 3 attachments on my primary. It is a very good gun with three attachments and suits my style of play. It is a subtle change unless you play Call of Duty a lot, in which case it is a really nice new way to do loadouts.

Still haven't jumped into COD. I was playing Sniper Elite, but got a little stuck so, opened up Medal of Honor:Warfighter, gotta say I am enjoying it. Missions feel real. Although I tend to like the COD graphics better.

Tomorrow Hitman arrives so, no idea when I will get to COD. I have about 8 games I have yet to open and get to. Just not enough hours in the day. But the ads for COD have me itching to try it.

I picked up Saints Row The Third in the Steam sale; I'm only about four hours in, but so far it's jolly good fun. Much more entertaining that GTA4, and much less crashy and performance-sapping than Saints Row 2.

Only problems are it's way too short (or feels too short), the 'world' is too small and the activities are too few and too repetitive.

Dishonored.

The guy at Game recommended it to me because I told him one of the games I was waiting for was Bioshock Infinite. So far it's pretty good but nowhere near as visually appealing as I was expecting. Can't wait to see what all the other rune powers are like.

I have noticed that there seem to be less places to visit in the world than SR2, I was assuming more would open up later. Maybe they're trying to get people to buy the DLC, but that was only an extra $2.50 in the Steam sale.

Wait, you only bought Saints Row the Third? The complete package was the same price at the same time.

Oh, right. Strange. Both showed up as 7 British Pounds and 49 Pence (Ugh, stupid forum not liking half of the symbols) for me.

But the Season Pack (the only DLC to add playable content) added some new missions and stuff, but not a lot that hadn't been done in the main game. It was supposed to be getting a standalone expansion called Enter the Dominatrix, but due to THQ's financial troubles it's now been morphed into Saints Row 4.

Speaking of THQ and their financial troubles, the THQ humble bundle just went up. PWYW for Metro 2033, Darksiders, Red Faction and Company of Heroes+expansions (Saints Row 3 if you top the average).
Hopefully they manage to recover from their financial woes, they have some great IPs...

I bought it, spent $2. I find THQ's DLC model to be questionable at best, and I did the balance so THQ got $0.25, Charity got $1.50, Humble got $0.25. Didn't bother topping the average as I already have Saints Row the Third.

X-com; Loved this game on my old Commodore Amiga and the pc version is very similar. It's turned based, tactical squad combat. The one downside is you cant pick which specialisation your squad members follow and you can end up with an unbalanced squad.

Hitman Absolution; overall a better game engine, but the stealth aspect becomes virtually non existent as the disguise system needs to be fixed big time.
e.g if you are disguised as a cop every other cop will see right through you in seconds. The same sadly goes for every outfit. Npcs of whatever profession you are dressed as instantly know you are not one of them and will suss you in seconds if you enter their line of sight. You can use "instinct" as you attempt to mosey by nonchalantly to hide your face, but it has a limited pool and burns out fast.
Most missions (for me) ended up as rather long and arduous gun fights which defeated the purpose of being a "silent assassin".
The missions themselves and the game world in general is not as open sandbox style as I'm used to in previous games and often it seems there is only one viable path to take in each.

Skyrim; For me one of (if not THE) best rpgs I've played. Very open sandbox style. Lots to explore, good selections of races/classes to choose. Lots of crafting skills like smithing, alchemy, enchanting etc and you can level up just by improving you skills rather than the traditional grinding/killing mobs system.
There are a few bugs in the game but the modding community for this game looks very good and I'm planning to check out a few choice mods soon.

Skyrim's completely classless. There aren't any classes to pick at all. Skills, however? Yes, many.

I've played a bit of Red Faction: Armageddon lately. First RF game I've touched since RF2. It's alright but I don't feel the need to play it.

I am finishing up Hitman: Absolution, only a few levels to go. While I love the franchise, this latest edition has one major flaw. The disguises take about 10 seconds before they are worthless. Your enemies see right through them, which destroys the whole idea behind it. I get about halfway through a mission completely stealthy and then my first disguise is blown within seconds and it turns into a shoot out. A major bug in the system that should have been fixed early on. Still enjoy it but compared to the previous installments a huge miss.

I will probably jump to Halo 4 next as I have a bunch of double XP coupons that need to be used up before they expire. Yesterday I received Far Cry 3 but it will have to wait along with a bunch of other games I have yet to get to.

True, but you are encouraged to specialise from an early stage, i.e. the three stones you encounter shortly after Helgen give bonuses to either mage, thief or warrior skills. I would think this tends to set the overall tone of your character's "path" early on.
Of course you can return and choose another option at any point, but then it could become a case of "jack of all trades, master of none" leaving a character with middling skills across the board, but without any real overall strengths.

Still enjoy it but compared to the previous installments a huge miss.

Agreed. They need to fix the disguise system and return to the sandbox of the earlier games. Finding multiple ways to hit you mark was part of the fun and replayability of the game. Although this game is entirely plot driven from the first mission to the last so 47 was somewhat blinkered throughout. Also didn't like the weapon restrictions/ lack of customisation and seemingly worthless "unlocked techniques" that didn't seem to add much to 47's abilities.

Also got the THQ humble bundle recently, played a little Red Faction and Saints Row The Third, and up to a little while ago, Kingdoms of Amalur on the Xbox 360.

Just beat XCOM: Enemy Unknown and I would put it in the Game of the Year category since I think Skyrim was 2011. Fantastic game, and very different playing a game you can actually lose and have to start over if you screw it up.
