What games are you playing?

Becoming very immersed in Far Cry 3 at the moment - the best of the series I think too. Especially having the right mix of fast travel options (a criticism of Far Cry 2 was having to travel in your jeep/car too much).

Halo 4 was good but not great, unfortunately the series is becoming a bit stale. Don't like the new multiplayer design much either (still prefer Halo Reach MP).

Just received Dead Space 3 in the mail today - if it's anything like the previous ones, it's going to be fun (and scary).

I enjoyed Far Cry 3 as well. I thought "liberating" the outposts was the most fun, the missions were a distant 2nd.

Your assessment of Halo 4 is spot on.

I have Dead Space 3 and have played about an hour into the campaign. First experience with the series. It's not bad but hasn't drawn me in the way the commercials led me to believe it would.

Last Tuesday, I picked up Aliens: Colonial Marines and Omertà City of Gangsters. Colonial Marines was dreadful as was Omertà. Omertà tried to be X-Com but they failed miserably. Felt much more linear than X-com and didn't have much leeway in the objectives. Where Colonial Marines was just a poor showing for a shooter.

I pick up Crysis 3 today, and will also throw some money on Bungies's Destiny which looks stunning.

How is Crysis 3?

About 20 minutes in, I like it. The first mission gives you the bow and as long as I retrieve the arrows, it is my weapon of choice. Second mission looks to be in the jungle that is New York, but haven't had an opportunity to play it.

I will be skipping Bioshock, didn't care for the first one. my next two pick ups are Gears of War: Judgement and Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2.

Next big release I'm thinking of getting is Tomb Raider, but... I'm not sure. I'm considering waiting a few weeks/months for one of the editions to drop in price.

But either way, next game I'll get is most likely the PC release of Brutal Legend, which comes out next week.

Weird. I know I read that bioshock was set for release Feb 26. I guess it got delayed again.

To tell you how much I enjoyed XCOM: Enemy Unknown, I just bought it after winning the game a few months ago. I played through the original mission and loved the game, but also felt like I had just scratched the surface. There were several skill trees I hadn't tried yet, and many customizations you don't have time to try in a single playthough. Also, it is so unlike any other game that it's great for variety when you are playing a more standard FPS. Just got my copy last night and coundlt put it down. Highly recommended.

Glad to hear you love XCom, I also enjoyed it. I purchased Omertà: City of Gangsters a turned based strategy based around the mafia. I would advise refraining from purchasing this one. Played about 4 hours before I decided to get rid of it. Nowhere near the greatness of XCom

Thanks for the tip - I was looking for similar games. PC games seem more suited to turn based play, but I'm playing XCOM on the PS3 and it works well.

Two of my favourite series! Dead Space 3 and Tomb Raider.

First DS3. It's pretty much more of the same so if, like me, you loved DS and DS2 then buy it. Not really as creepy as previous games but still right up my street. The only significant change is the weapon crafting system. Previously all you could do was soup up the weapons you collected. Now you can make your own (within limits). If I have any criticism of the series it is the way the weapons effectiveness varies. In DS I had a maxed out plasma cutter and it was 'the bomb'. In DS2 I had a zealot force gun which exploded necromorphs with aplomb (despite being ineffective in DS). In DS3 I tried both of these and was disappointed. However, once I got into my stride..... my SCAF bullpup assault rifle with underslung ripper or forcegun modified with MkII components and flame glaze prodded some serious buttock on the second play through. :D:D

Secondly TR. I've always been a fan, right from the PS1 days. This latest edition is another step change up (IMO) in control and gameplay. BUT, it's not really TR in the traditional sense. It's practically a third person shooter. Proportionally there is hardly any actual tomb raiding. Lots of running around, climbing and riding zip wires but not much in the way of complicated agility/puzzle solving. I changed the difficulty up to 'hard' partway through because of this. However, I am really enjoying it. Spending ridiculous amounts of time on it (for me, I should say). It arrived on the 5th and I think I'm not far off completion of the main storyline. After that I suppose I could mop up any unexplored tombs and find all the rewards and geocaches etc but this will only tide me over until Bioshock comes out.

I gauged it at about 15hrs long for 100 Percent completion, including deaths caused by the game's sometimes-erratic controls and so on. I finished it in 13hrs with a 92 Percent completion rate (that was all challenge tombs, including a DLC one, done, and probably just shy of 75 Percent of all collectables, and probably half/two-thirds of the challenges done).

It's certainly a good game, but there's not a whole lot of content there, nor a lot of variety. Didn't stop me devouring it in under two days.

:( the puzzle solving was more interesting to me than the shooting in previous Tomb Raider games.

It is a shame about the latest TR. There's 7-8 challenge tombs in the game and they, alone, contain most of the puzzles. And they take 5-10 minutes each. There are some harder and more complex puzzles in the story itself, but I found them more frustrating than anything.

But other than that and one or two other little issues, it is a really good game.

I just finished playing Mass Effect 1 and 2 and all the DLC for them. When I originally played the first ME, my save file was corrupted, so I couldn't import my Shepard to ME 2. I ended up playing ME 2 with the default. Then when ME 3 came out, I played half way through and stopped. I wanted my choices to be in it, with the characters I kept alive. So, a couple of weeks ago, I decided to finally bunker down and replay 1 and 2. I did it. Off to finally finish the trilogy. That way I'm all done for when 4 comes on next year some time. While I know it doesn't have anything to do with the reapers, maybe events you chose for 1, 2, and 3 will affect certain things? Who knows? I don't really pay attention to game developing until it's closer to release.

Shepard's story is over, which has been clearly stated for a while now (I think ME3 tells you in-game it's the last Shepard title). Mass Effect 4's details aren't known. I'd put my money on it being set some time after the Shepard trilogy.

I was playing Sniper 2, but with a 7 hour (give or take) campaign, I completed it. It was a huge improvement from the first game. I am now just waiting for the first DLC to come out. I picked up Gears of War Judgement today while I wait for Defiance to come out. I also have been playing off and on some Borderlands 2 but not having much fun as I recall having with the first one.
