What's the last movie you watched (2010)?

Saw Red in the theater, decent popcorn movie. It's good to get a Bruce Willis fix every now and then.

Last movie in the theater was Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hool for a second time. Saw it 3D, this time. Very cool.

Iron Man 2 - I'd heard it wasn't nearly as good as the first one so didn't bother seeing it until a friend lent it to me last night. I liked it a lot. It's not as fresh as the first but that was always going to be the case, it is still very funny with Downey spot on as Stark. The action set pieces are a step-up and the villains worked better than I thought they would. On the down side there's not enough Pepper again, I think Paltrow and Downey's timing and banter is the heart of the movies but isn't played out to its fullest. Also too much Avengers tie-in stuff, I expect it from comics but not movies. Overall pleasantly surprised and kicking myself for not watching it earlier.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 1 - I loved it. Had a different feel from the other movies and captured a lot of what I liked about the last book. I think a few things got moved around sequencewise to have a good arc, and it worked.

The house elves are freaky - cgi keeps getting better.

What this movie also did was show how cool magic and fantasy can be on the big screen. Very cool.

Cant wait for the conclusion to be released.

No, not really. I saw it when it came out but I've recently bought all six films so I'm slowly going through them all in chronological order.

Enter the Void, the latest by Gaspar Noe. This is a freaky trip out of a movie, very original and memorable, but might be a bit confronting for some.

Also watched Monsters about a couple brought together who have to cross the exclusion zone where the "monsters" live. Quite well done and original - 3/5.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1. It was so stupendously bland, that it took me a whole week to force myself to write the review on my blog...

I'm so sad they didn't get rid of David Yates after The Order of the Phoenix :(

Watched Ep 2 and Ep 3 this week.

Episode 2
Pretty good, or at the very least it's a huge improvement over Episode 1. Hayden isn't a brilliant actor in it, but he stays bearable through the film. Gotta say I love the clone troopers, and I think the guy who plays Jango (And the clones) steals the show from most of the cast. Oh, and I love Padmé's white costume ;)

Episode 3
I swear I've seen bits of this before, perhaps in clips around the internet or on TV. However, to the best of my knowledge, this is the first time I've seen the whole film. Wow! It's better than Episode 2, although some things seemed a little... Off. Both Ewan and Hayden really improved from the previous film, but I felt Palpatine's performance bordered on terrible. He reminded me of a cross between Fester and Michael Winner (Calm down, dear, I'm only a Sith!). The end of the film with Vader's "Nooooo!" was utterly hilarious, and for all the wrong reasons.

So, to sum both films up. Droids 2, Actors 0.

Dune (1984) - The Alan Smithee 'extended' TV version. I can see why Lynch took his name off. I could see why Lynch took his name off after about two minutes. What an abominable mess! I gave up after an hour.

Also watched Monsters about a couple brought together who have to cross the exclusion zone where the "monsters" live. Quite well done and original - 3/5.
I'm looking at the listings for my local cinema, and that and Megamind are the only two films that interest me (Narnia 3's out next week and no way would my old man want to go to see it). You gave it 3/5, but is that a good 3/5 or a bad 3/5? :p Not seen any film like it, so maybe I should go to see it for the sake of trying something new.

Has anyone else seen it?

A good 3/5 :p

It was a good movie and a bit original, but I guess with all the quite positive reviews I was expecting more. Definitely worth a look.

I Eat Your Skin aka Zombie Bloodbath (1964) Two misleading titles, though people did eat, there were people with skin in the movie, and there were zombies. But it was total pants. It was total pants at the time and remained on the shelf for 6 years before sneaking out as the support act in a drive in double bill.
The basic story concerns a playboy writer who travels with his agent, and a couple of other more disposable characters, to Voodoo Island where he uncovers a fiendish plot by the boss white man. The boss white man is blackmailing the local maverick misguided scientist with the beautiful daughter (standard fixtures on small Caribbean islands at the time) into turning the 'natives' into indestructible zombies with which he can take over the world. The zombification process involves taking snake venom (via stock footage) and putting it in a nuclear microwave with a big flashing DANGER FORESHADOWING! sign on it, and injecting it into hapless natives. Mwahahaha! To help him in his scheme White Boss Bloke dresses up as a voodoo-doo priest, Papa Whatever, and goes around chopping off women's heads at orgiastic ceremonies. When he decides to chop off the blonde (and somewhat humpable) scientist's beautiful daughter's head things go a bit wrong for him.

This movie probably does have one claim to fame, it boasts what may well be the the world's first on screen zombie suicide bomber. A zombie carrying a box, helpfully marked 'Explosives' walks into the spinning propeller of the heroes plane. Kaboom!
A couple of shots later, as our heroes (they weren't actually in the plane at the time) run away from the wreckage and the rest of the zombies, we get a wonderful panning shot that lets us see the shadows of the entire film crew cast by the setting sun along the beach.

In the end you'll be glad to know the whole island is blown up when the nuclear microwave with the big flashing DANGER FORESHADOWING sign on it overloads.

Avoid at all costs; I have made it sound far more fun than it actually is.

A good 3/5 :p

Thanks, West. Might have to see it then, unless I can find a spoiler-free Megamind review.

I just watched Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope and I really, really enjoyed it. I'll admit I chuckled a bit during the fight between Vader and Kenobi. It did seem like Harrison didn't want to be there, though, but it did enhance Han Solo's character.

I enjoyed noticing the little flaws too (So much for being remastered, eh?). The TIE Fighters all had boxes around them as they flew past the Falcon, the guard to the right of Luke at the ceremony (Where the door is) had a wonky helmet and a few other things. I also liked finding the references to the then non-existent prequel trilogy, such as the mention of 'Ben' Kenobi.

In a way, I think the prequel trilogy did "ruin" the original trilogy, but not because of Whiny Anakin or anything else. I think it's the smaller things that make the difference - The Stormtroopers all sound different, R2D2 struggles with stairs yet he should be able to "jet" down them, Ben Kenobi didn't seem to recognise 3PO or R2. Oh, and Daddy D? Greedo shot first ;)

Favourite bit: Mouse droid. Der der di der.

So, so far, Droids 4: Actors 0.

Question: Are the aliens supposed to have subtitles, or do we go off cues? I'm sure they had subtitles at some point, but it could be the old brain playing up again.

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
Thoroughly enjoyed it, but I will say I think bar Hoth, Episode IV was better. Still, amazing film and I loved watching every moment.

It's also the first one where the actors win, so...
Droids 4: Actors 1.

And, now for the biggie...

Monsters
Just got back from seeing it. Wow, it's not what I expected at all.

Good film, but the plot line is thinner than Kate Moss. The filmwork is a bit confusing at times as it seems to act like there's a third person involved, and it seems a bit strange. Might be a bit scary for the kiddies, though, mind you - It's not really a film I would consider showing to kids. It's more of a romance film than a horror/sci-fi film (In my opinion, anyway), and whilst it's only a 12a, there's not really much for kids to see. I think the advertising lead to that confusion, though, as I saw a couple of kids (One must have been 10 at most) or early-teens there, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were bored to tears during it. It's a film that makes you think, takes your breath away, makes you jump a couple of times but otherwise it coasts along with some beautiful shots.

I'm gonna give it a 4/5, simply because I think the marketing really made it look like something else. However, what I saw was a beautiful and moving piece that blew all my expectations away. It just goes to show how amazing a film can be on a low budget, and it (In my opinion) makes many Hollywood efforts look terrible, and how horror sequences can be done without buckets of blood or excessive swearing.

It's certainly a film I'd wager is better at the cinema than on DVD, so if you've got a pass or something, get yourself down there and watch it.

Saw Unstoppable. Good Hollywood action movie. Crisp and clear buildup. Not too much nonsense.

I am living in a universe where someone thinks Episode IV is better than Episode V O.o

One's teal and one's turquoise. For me, there's difference between the two so they're both pretty similar ;)

Episode IV, for me, was ever so slightly better. We're not talking one is 9/10 and one's 7/10, both are like... 9/10 but one's 9.1 and the other's 9.2
