Write One, Sub One

I just got rejected by Beneath Ceaseless Skies. The editor said the opening of my story didn't work for them. I will adjust and send back out! Not sure where though...will have to look at Duotrope... :p

That's good though, to get something like that from BCS, right?

I just saw this.

[valley-girl inflection]What?[/valley-girl inflection]

No, uh, I don't think the rejection meant it was good... But thank you for your encouragement. For better or worse, it keeps me going. :)

So, I have not submitted a single story this month. I don't feel quite right not having slung my drivel on a poor, unsuspecting editor yet. I will try to find something to submit before the month is out. :D

Well, the fact that they mentioned the opening meant they read past that point, I'd hope. And it also means that you didn't get a form rejection, which is also a good thing.

We are nothing if not delusional, eh?

Joking! I know what you mean. And I thank you.

I submitted my (terrible) story (that got this thread started) to Lakeside Circus. Charlotte mentioned them in another thread and I thought, why not?

One consolation, Charlotte: the story is short. You all won't suffer for long. ;)

Eek! The stories are blinded, so I won't know which it is - hopefully I am nice to it! ;)

Yes, my favourite thing about Lakeside so far is the 2500-word limit. Someone sent in a 3600-word story and I was pleased that I didn't even have to open it!

No worries. Be yourself. Despite all the rejections I have received in the past five years, I'm still writing. :)

Taking my chances with BCS! This story has been rejected 4 times now, but three of those times it was held for second round consideration and/or I got a very nice personal rejection. So my hopes are high, which will get me a coffee, along with $1.95.

You'll do fine. I predict...an acceptance! :)

Got a rejection from Lakeside Circus. (Thanks for the feedback, Charlotte!)

Now, onto revision (or maybe just trunk it).

Not sure I have any other short story anywhere close to being ready for submission, so I may abandon my effort to write one/sub one so I can concentrate on those novels I keep saying I'm gonna write. Good luck to all who keep it up! :)

Ahahaha... oh god, the badge of shame...

Ha! Wear it with pride, baby!

Actually, I think I need to be wearing that badge...right smack in the middle of my forehead. :(

Don't worry, my dear, this, too, will pass. (Isn't that a quote from something?)

I WILL where it with pride! ;)

Got a form rejection from Giganotosaurus for my princess story. :(

Moving on...

Ugh, November off to a brutal start, with three rejections in the last day and a half. For the record, in October I submitted four different pieces five times. No acceptances to report. ;)

Yay.

I just read an author's blog post in which he notes that he has had over 100 rejections - for 2013.

The first thing I thought was damn, you still trying? Then I thought damn, I'm not trying enough.

Stay strong, Charlotte. You are a great writer.
