The pilot for Oasis is here, and it’s good enough to demand more.
Amazon Video is currently hosting its pilot season. Among the shows up for a chance to become a new Amazon Original Series is Oasis, an adaptation of the 2014 novel, The Book of Strange New Things by Michael Faber.
The story follows Peter Leigh as an ecumenical priest who who joins a mission to colonize a planet after his wife dies. But what he finds on the planet not only puts his faith to the test, but it puts life as humanity knows it to the test.
Richard Madden, who Game of Thrones fans will recognize as Robb Stark, plays Leigh.
Madden is joined by Mark Addy, who played alongside him in Game of Thrones as King Robert Baratheon in the first season of the show. Haley Joel Osment (of The Sixth Sense fame) plays Madden’s friend and a botanist brought to the planet to keep cultivation attempts alive. Anil Kappor (Slumdog Millionaire) plays the commander of the base where Leigh ends up.
The pilot is streaming on Amazon Prime as part of Amazon’s pilot season. Users can watch the pilots and rate them, to see which of the pilots will get the treatment and be turned into a full-fledged show.
Based on the high quality effects, acting, cinematography, editing, and the excellent source material, Oasis has a chance at becoming an enormously successful sci-fi hit for Amazon.
Some of the past pilots that have gone on to become fully fledged shows are The Tick, Bosch, and the widely acclaimed Mozart of the Jungle.
Users with Amazon Prime should watch and review now, as the pilot season is for a limited time only.

Good enough for me to want more, but not the greatest pilot, I have ever seen! Could be a great series of done better for episode two. Good job of laying down the plot and establishing character roles.
I agree. It was definitely a lot of world and character building, and if they stick to what they’ve done, I think we’re in for something pretty good. How good will remain to be seen.
