The BBC has released a trailer for the latest Christmas special for its television series, “Doctor Who.”
The episode, titled “The Return of Doctor Mysterio,” follows Peter Capaldi as the eponymous hero, as aliens threaten Manhattan. In the trailer, the Doctor is joined by a mysterious figure called, “The Ghost.”
Steven Moffat wrote the episode’s script.

The episode will air on Christmas Day on the BBC, as well as on BBC America.
This special is the first new episode to air since “The Husbands of River Song,” which aired last Christmas following the end of series nine.
Series ten, Capaldi’s last outing as the Doctor, is set to premier in April 2017. Production began in June 2016.
Capaldi’s first full appearance as the Twelfth Doctor was in the 2013 Christmas special, “The Time of the Doctor.”
I for one am very glad to see the Doctor return after such a long absence! The episode looks good visually, and the superhero-like character might be interesting. Not sure we have really seen that idea fully explored in Doctor Who before.
