Last Movie You Watched (2017)

Fantastic Beasts... Still can't decide whether it's a great expansion of the Potterverse or a cynical cash-in... was OK, if a bit long. Think I might need to see it again.
I enjoyed that movie. Sure, you could think of it as manipulative, but it was still fun! And seriously, who can hate Eddie Redmayne?

Hate's a strong word, but I'm not a huge fan. This was not my biggest issue with the movie, though, nor the fact that it had Colin Farrell, who I also find difficult to like. As much as I liked parts of it, I came away from it thinking that it was just about the money.... which is odd. But rather steady rather than exciting, and perhaps a tad long.

Sacrilege. You obviously have no heart. o_O

Or maybe you have no mothering instinct. There's something vulnerable about him that makes me just want to hug him and say "There, there. Everything will be all right!" :D:rolleyes:

You obviously have no heart.
Nope: it's in the jar, over there.... :D

But it is a weird thing. There are some actors/actresses that I just don't like, or rather not warm to. He seems a nice guy whenever I've seen him on the talk shows, but in terms of parts it's all rather the same. Even weirder, people like Hugh Grant do not elicit the same response, when I know he should. There's just a gut reaction.

And then there are some who I just like, regardless.

I love that old Stephen King quote. "I have the heart of a small boy... " LOL.

Well, I'm pretty much with you on Colin Farrell much of the time -- also Russell Crowe much of the time. Just don't let me hear you say anything bad about Hugh Jackman. o_O:D

No, I like Hugh, though not a fan of musicals. Logan was terrific. Russell Crowe's another odd one for me: I quite like him. think It's the voice, even though Man of Steel was basically Russell going Gladiator on Krypton. The dislike of Colin Farrell I don't understand, but I think it was the Daredevil movie.

Rogue One. I liked it quite a bit. Nice to see a Star Wars movie that's not focused on hero-worshipping Jedi the entire time and that goes super dark at the end. I also really loved how faithful they were to the sometimes ridiculous looking costume and set design from the originals.

Some of the scenes are direct homages, aren't they? Like
the revving up of the Death Star
. Much grittier and actually really much closer to what people wanted in a Star Wars movie than Episode I.

The final scenes are worth watching alone, though I must admit, having watched it again last night, not quite as impressive on a fairly large TV screen as it was in the cinema.

Big announcement from Disney today about the series, evidently. Something about the 40th anniversary later in the year.

@Hobbit Wasn't there a rumour the original trilogy would be released on blu-ray in its original unaltered form later this year?

Yes. That was my thinking. I have copies of those on DVD, but it'll be nice to see them scrubbed up a little. Lucas said for years that the cost of upgrading them meant that they couldn't be done, if I remember...

I believe he once said the negatives had been destroyed in the process of creating the late nineties special editions. We'll learn soon enough what they've be using, I guess.

(Bet there's a copy been found in the archives, somewhere....!)

Oh god! Why? I really don't understand the adulation those movies continue to get.
It's pure sentimentality. Ya know, playing with Star Wars toys in the eighties. I care about what happens to Luke next, so shoot me.:p

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

I quite enjoyed this and thought it dealt honestly with the novel and its characters given the need to have a 2 hour run time

Watched Logan today; probably my favourite of the X-Men series of films (and I'm not a huge super hero movie fan) - loved the grit, the darkness, the heaviness of it all.

I enjoyed Rogue One, although I thought it was a mixed bag. I thought some elements of it were great, like the non-sugar coated battles & the homage pieces, and some fell flat, like the sarcastic robot & the blind force wannabe. In general, all of the supporting characters (i.e. not Jin) seemed weak to me. I think one issue is that there were just too many of them, but most also seemed somehow off or weakly portrayed, like the terrorist/rebel leader. Certain segments also struck me as off or weak, such as the council meeting where they vote not to steal the plans, and the whole empire stores the plans for everything in a single archive with a lot of switches seemed quite contrived. Even some of the scenery, like one of the imperial bases being in the middle of a lava lake that looked straight from Lord of the Rings. Yes, we know they are evil, but since when do they govern from Mount Doom? As a whole, most of the movie struck me as an awkward, lumpy thing, poorly stitched together, that happened to work really well in stretches, especially toward the end.

My wife and I have seen a few this year.
I also liked Logan, though I would have liked it more if the little girl had been played by an actress ( act-TOR, as they wanna be called now. )
We despised Life.
The Lost City of Z
was boring, though we might have enjoyed it more with a little sound separation from The Fate of the Furious in the theater next door.
On the Preview of Remakes front: it took me 4 sec. to id the new My Cousin Rachel and only 2 ( count'em!) for The Beguiled.
No interest at all in either; the originals are quite memorable.
I also am underwhelmed by Colin Ferrel( since Alexander). Other put-offs include Keira Knightely ( not her acting, but why on earth mis-cast her in Zhivago, Pride and Prejudice,Anna Karenina......)

Scarecrow (2013)
The Scarecrow looks like Slenderman with the claws of Lady Deathstrike so a unique look not a uncreative boring ordinary scarecrow.
It's not stated or made clear what exactly released the Scarecrow which is a huge flaw.
A decent movie with mostly likable characters which is great with decent acting.
A great climax.
It's a horror slasher movie in the countryside which I can't recall much of.

Unforgettable (2017)
I was optimistic this would be a great suspense movie in the league of Fatal Attraction which is why I'm extremely dissappointed.
Katherine Heigl playing a villain in a movie and I can't recall her playing a villain in other movies. She is great as a black hat or a villain.
It has a great climax, the ending is kind of sequel bait. It is unforgettable in a unintended way since it's a decent movie that underachieved because it could have been a great movie.
