OK: the elephant in the room: Game of Thrones, Season 8 Episode 3.

To me it was underwhelming and overrated. Lots of posturing without meaningful resolution. Lots of things built up to something that in the end meant nothing. (Can you tell I'm avoiding spoilers?) It was good - but the best episode of a programme ever, as some are claiming? I also rather suspect that we're a long way away from what will be the GRRM version, if we ever see it.

I hated it. Chock full over overblown pauses, hard to see action, and nonsense.

The most glaring stupidity was Ghost abandoning John and running with the Dothraki. Bran doing absolutely nothing except rolling his eyes into the back of his head was a close second, and there were many, many candidates for third.

Of course this has no correlation with the GRRM version. THEY DID NOT EVEN DEFEND THE WALL, THE ANCIENT 500 FOOT BARRIER MEANT FOR THE SPECIFIC PURPOSE OF REPELLING THE WHITE WALKERS.

I’m mid-way through Season 3 of The Expanse, and it is undoubtedly the best Science Fiction TV Series in quite a while. It is a dark and gritty future, but it seems plausible. The portrayal of our characters has been getting better, and the special effects are amazing.

I’ve been reading the novels as well. While the story has diverged somewhat, they are keeping pretty close to the books on the important parts. Quite refreshing to see. I’m so glad Amazon saved the series from cancellation by SYFY.

I’ve finished Season 3 of The Expanse and it turned out to be better than I expected. It is a very good adaptation of the written works, and each season has seen the actors grow into the roles of the characters. It will be interesting to see what Amazon does with Season 4...

It was good - but the best episode of a programme ever, as some are claiming? I also rather suspect that we're a long way away from what will be the GRRM version, if we ever see it.

I thought it was good, but the whole battle was too long (which they did try to break up by following different characters, and the fighting in the dark corridors) - personally I prefer the episodes with treachery, personal clashes and dialogue over big battle scenes.

They should have made one fluent, well-written TV movie out of those first three episodes. Instead everything was compartmentalised. One hour of fan service followed by one hour of sentimentality rounded off by the dim, in two senses of the word, pile of dung we were served yesterday.

I started watching The Santa Clara Diet, which is a goofy take on the zombie genre. I like the actors, Drew is ok and I especially like the husband's delivery. There are moments where it seems to work pretty well, remarkably well even, but it just has a level of goofyness that I don't think it is likely to work for me over the long haul. Verdict: worth trying an episode or two!

They've just cancelled it, sadly.

Here I'm still working on the new Twilight Zone. It's not bad, some are better than others, though nothing really bad, nor is there anything outstanding yet. (6 episodes in.) Worth a watch.

After last night I'm convinced GRRM is a genius. He is deliberately letting HBO put out their ill-conceived ending prior to publishing his final two ASoIF novels. He didn't want the producers leaching off of them so gave them only a vague global notion of where things will end up. The Winds of Winter will be announced shortly after episode 6 airs. Surely?

The writers of the TV show clearly felt no sense of burden, of living up to the standard, or any of that. They wrote it like any other TV episode ... and it completely shows. No one liked last night's episode that I've talked too. Bizarre combo of Filler + Rushing + Massively Illogical Behaviors.

At this point, I hope they have forgotten about the Prince that was Promised and Miri Maz's prophecy as if they do try to put those in, they will painfully and awkwardly botched.

But no...I don't think Winds of Winter is coming...its a myth, a white walker. I'll believe it is coming when I hear my neighbor's screaming and ice blue eyes up and down the street. Even then my first thought would be Swedish Boy Band.

I'm watching the movie they made out of The Wandering Earth. While its subtitled, it looks very nice and so far it just feels like a professional movie that may be worthwhile.

I don't tend to watch subtitled netflix movies all at once, but I'm enjoying it.

Made me think of Space:1999 (moving Earth) and Thunderbirds (big lorries), but has that old-fashioned sense of wonder. There's bits from other movies as well - Gravity, 2001, for example. There are some annoyances (Tim as the 'comic relief' - grr) but it's worth a watch in my opinion.

After I posted, I thought I probably should have added something about dubious science and, from what I've seen so far, a dubious plot. But does have a bit of old fashioned sense of wonder/fun yes. Being well shot helps.

I watched the first 5 episodes of Russian Doll yesterday. Best Netflix show so far. Tightly written 24 minutes episodes. No filler. They translated the Groundhog Day idea of reliving the same day over and over again successfully to television.

From season 2 on or so it has been a show I watch with a finger constantly hovering over the fast forward button. Less so since they caught up with the source material.
