Skyfire (2019) Rich people build fancy resort next to active volcano. This turns out to be a bad idea. High level suspension of disbelief required, but entertaining enough. Mixed English and Chinese dialogue, with subtitles available.

The Christmas tree is up, so I'm watching The Red Shoes (1948).



Strange how this movie has won me over - I wouldn't consider myself a ballet enthusiast, but watching this movie has become a Christmas ritual.

It's not really about dance, it's about sacrifice, attention to detail, obsession, and hero-worship, not to mention svengali-ism. A movie to watch with interest and with horror. I can see why it is one of Scorsese's favourite movies.

A good film. Very unlike other modern films in this genre. Tomorrow evening I'll watch at least one episode of the Alec Guinness tv series in HD.

Alec Guinness's version was memorable the 2011 version was ok but that might just be my age ranking them, a younger person might prefer Garry Oldman's performance.

Just re-watched Deepwater Horizon again. Good show, but plays a bit fast and loose with tech & the relationships between oil companies & the drilling companies.

To this day, I have never figured out why Hollywood thinks that blue collar workers should have perpetually grimy faces.

The influential proto - slasher from 1974. Sorority girls are being bumped off before they can get home for the holiday.
Much to enjoy in this one. However, can't help but think if the police investigation hadn't been so incompetently shambolic it would've been over in 10 minutes !

It depends on what you do. I know people who have worked as drivers for film and tv productions and they’re very blue collar.

Got sucked into the 2003 SyFy channel movie version of Riverworld. Streaming on the ROKU channel.
The best things that I can say about it was that some of the actors were pretty (men and women), and that it is nice that a classic genre novel made some money for its author. The scenery was worth looking at and the paddle boat was fun.
The worst things about it is that it took some of Philip Farmer's ideas (the river, resurrection, the paddle boat, mixing characters from different eras) put them in a pretty (New Zealand) setting and had nothing much better to do with them then have them swing swords at each other. I understand why the film was a pilot that never caught on. They did try again a decade later.

Editing (very junior on a couple of the last films edited on real cut and splice film before Avids and Lightworks and all the other non-linear editing software became the norm. (That long ago.)

Drivers have bugger all to do with what gets put up on the screen. They may be blue collar, Raule, but have zero input into the creative process. (Though most of them in LA do have a screenplay they're working on/completed/with an agent/never going to be seen.)

Have watched New Mutants, which is not the worst movie I've ever seen.... but definitely not the best. It doesn't help when we quickly started calling the puppet parrot in it "Mr. Flibble"...
