Far Away Holiday - The first challenge I'm having is getting used to present tense. I'll try and not let that bother me. I definitely lack the way you're working the character's loneliness and how she's dealing w/ it. The ending was alright, a bit given w/ the dream, but fitting for the subject matter. I do wonder if you could've given me a clue as to that particular book's importance!

Unfortunately the book did not have any real signifigance. I wrapped up the story and realized that I am not much of an expert in children's books. It was the first one I could bring to mind. As someone else mentioned also it is mostly a picture book, not a real word book to learn to read with. My handling of tense is also an issue, the most common item in my flash fiction stories that people have critiqued and given advice for.

Nils won again! I think we should appoint him honorary Contest Master for the entire year of 2009 as a reward. Do I hear a second?

It was a bit of a fluke when you consider how evenly the votes were spread. plus, I have now realised my error, i.e. I could have voted for your story (which I came very close to doing), making you joint winner and then simply novated you to run the next contest. Oh well, you live and learn!

We can add that to the user's manual, along with saving your vote for last and writing a story so B A D that no one will vote for it. (Not as easy as it sounds. I started with a run-on sentence that should have sent critters diving for their "Elements of" and still got favorable reviews. Nice people at this site.)

I'm not in favor of term limits other than having everyone raise their right hand and say, "Next time I'll write an even better story."

Competition, it makes the world go round.
