I Just Bought (DVD)

Roll on September and series six West Wing.......

We are still waiting for season five. It may actually be the last one I buy because the last season (6) was awful. There was a petition sent to the network and Warners called 'Don't Save Our Show' asking for them to cancel it. They seem to be going ahead with season 7 so I am probably just going to stop watching. :(

In spite of my own Batman talk I literally left my house with wallet in hand when I heard that SEASON ONE OF THE MUPPETS IT OUT!!!!! Oh yeah, gonna watch some now. You love it! lol

I got my ordered copy of the theatrical version of Alexander, in fact I am watching it now.

Greedy Studio Scams with Sin City

I already posted this in the Sin City thread, but I just picked up the DVD today...

It was after much internal debate, since I found out the studio is pulling a disgusting scam by releasing it with pretty much no special features whatsoever (besides one pathetic featurette).

Apparently there will be a nice 2 disc set in December (if you can wait that long), with commentaries, features, etc.

In the end, after going back and forth, I bought it today for the following reasons:
-It was only $19.99, whereas the special edition will probably be much more.
-I realized I'm not really that interested in special features, unless it's one of my favorite movies of all time
-I didn't want to wait 4 months... I guess I'm impatient :)

Anyway, the movie was great even on the smaller screen. It seems a little slow in spots, especially with all the narration, but still really good and beautiful to watch.

PS The worst part of the greedy studio's schemes: Not only do they want you to buy both versions of the movie, but there are 4 or 5 different covers for today's release. They probably want some poor people to buy all 5, then get the special edition in December!

I just received Kung Fu Hustle R1 DVD from Amazon. Overall, it was a pretty good movie, though I didn't find the ending to be as satisfying as Shaolin Soccer. The obligatory romantic subplot was virtually nonexistent this time 'round. Stephen Chow rocks, as usual.

Watched last night

The Directors Cut of King Arthur.

I was pleasantly surprised. I'd heard this movie was a turkey, but it turned out to be an enjoyable romp as long as you ignored the fact it was supposed to be about "King Arthur"...... and the Saxons were brilliant!

Oh wow, you mean there is more with Kung Fu Hustle came from? Cool! I'll get my son looking for it.......

I thought the romantic subplot was pretty clear and well-done. Too much more of it would have been too cloying.

I'll rent it, copy it and then buy the decent one in December!

Last batch of DVD's I purchased:

- Steamboy (R1)
- Azumi
- Grosse Point Blank (to replace my video version + Play.com 3 for £20 offer )
- High Fidelity (to replace my video version + Play.com 3 for £20 offer )
- L.A. Confidential (Play.com for £20 offer)
- Clerks X edition (only just came out in the UK)
- Dawn of the Dead:Ultimate Edition (R1 - as it looks to never come out in the UK)

I tend to buy DVD's in large batches when I get paid at the end of the month.

You might want to get your son to look for God of Cookery and King of Comedy while he's at it. I bought the latter on DVD (R3-Thailand); it was decent, but not up to the standard of SS or KFH. I haven't had a chance to see GoC, but my brother tells me it's pretty darn funny.

Incidentally, www.monkeypeaches.com is reporting that a KFH sequel is in the works! Unfortunately, it sounds like Huang Shengyi, who played the ice cream vendor, probably won't be back. Maybe she was upset because her part didn't have enough lines in the first movie? ;)

Scamminess sounds crappy, I'll have to rent it though cuz I desperately want to see it again. I mostly want the special edition because someone (possibly you even :o ) said that every story will be viewable as it's own separate film, which seems so much better to me for some reason.

I just bought the Ghostbuster 1 & 2 dvd set. I got it at Suncoast for only $15. Their are also two of the animated episodes on the second dvd.

Well, The Dark Crystal should arrive tomorrow from Amazon :D

I'll be straight into the lounge to watch it for the first time in nearly 10 years :D

I just bought:

Maverick
La Femme Nikita Season 3
Deadwood Season 1

Yup! I'm not sure it even made it to free-to-air TV in Australia, but I bought Deadwood - The Complete First Season on DVD based purely on the strong things I'd heard about it. My only regret is that now I've got an unbearable wait until the second season is released on DVD.

I recently picked up:
The Others
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
The Blues Brothers
