I Just Bought (DVD)

Despite taking a wee vacation around our postal service... Freaks & Geeks finally turned up... and I like a lot.

Geek: She's a cheerleader... you've seen Star Wars 27 times... do the math!

And in another great scene:

Geek: Wait, I thought it was anonymous, how did you know it was me?

Sex Education Teacher: You're the only student who uses Star Trek stationery...

LOL... classics.

I will try to remember my latest haul of DVDs. My computer is sick :( , and they are trying to resussitate it, so I am not at home and don't have my stuff at hand.

The Company a Robert Altman film about the Joffre Ballet in Chicago
The Dresser
Chinatown & The Two Jakes
Birthday Girl

I've just bought Heimat - German TV series from 1984 that I vaguely remember being on the BBC about that time, but missed most of it.

6 DVD's, something like 23 hours worth. And it's fantastic. Deals with the history of Germany from 1918 - 84 but from a German perspective, based on people in one village. Despite being a TV series, very filmic. The change to and from colour film to black and white as the series goes on is inspired!

And sorry, Nim, but my German's so bad, I'm using subtitles. Still an amazing series though.

Hobbit

A Beautiful Mind

I have a nomination for plot twist of the decade. Excellent movie. Worth every peso.

B5

True Lies - special edition

Leon - director's cut
Finally! I waited and waited never knowing which edition I really wanted. Now the director's cut came out in Germany, in a tin-like plastic casing and for only €12,99!

It was such a good idea to go to the bookstore today. ;) Have to go again tomorrow (to another bookshop) in hope to finally find a BOOK to buy.

I've heard that True Lies SE isn't anything special, Nim: but I love Leon. Jean Reno is one of my faves (even in Godzilla!) and Luc Besson's Leon & Nikita are brilliant. (5th Element less so, as I can't stand Chris Tucker.) I even enjoyed his Joan of Arc, which generally got panned.

Please let me know if the Director's cut's any good!

Hobbit

Yep, I know that the True Lies SE is not really special but I heard the quality of both picture and sound is way better than the first DVD release. And I always wanted to have this movie aaand it was cheap. :D

Actually, I am not sure but I think I have seen the director's cut - I watched this movie repeatedly on TV, sometimes on channels which might not be much loved but are much nicer to movie freaks i.e. imagine that: no ads! ;) And I think they showed the director's cut once or twice . . . if you love (and I do so, too) the movie I think it is definitely worth it to have the DC. :)
(Btw. I did like 5th Element very much and I too did like Joan of Arc - at least enough to have it on DVD ;) )

My most recent DVD purchases have been as follows
The Day After- that awesome movie where Kansas gets nuked.
Total Recall- a pretty good film based on a PKD story. I am trying to collect every movie based on his work, i have all the popular ones.
12 Monkeys- a crazy good movie. I first saw it as a challenge, someone told me it was very confusing and hard to get, so i took them up on the challenge. I got it, at least for the most part.
so yeah. My DVD collection is growing, and I am excited about that. because i love movies.

you've got the aids....

I saw Family Guy last night for the first time and could not stop laughing, so today I bought Family Guy volume 1.

I just got some older movies and some new ones. My Borders is having a sale witht he 4th one free:

Under the Tuscan Sun
Fast Times at Ridgement High
Cold Mountain
O Brother, Where Art Thou ?
The Breakfast Club
Kill Bill Vol 1
Kill Bill Vol 2
Bound

I recently picked up:
Scrubs (Season 1)
Ace Venture, Pet Detective

I watched Scrubs in one sitting - I'm a massive fan of that show.

the o.c season one boxset!

yes I am a very sad person but it's so addictive just couldnt help myself!

Just ordered a 3-disc set of the BBC Chronicles of Narnia, TV mini series from the late 1980s, off amazon.ca

I remember it being terribly cheesy and full of awful effects, but I also remember being addicted to it as a kid, after reading the books!

(surprised I never posted in this thread before, having a pretty large collection of movies!)

Am waiting for Battlestar Galactica Season 1 to arrive. It's probably the best scripted show on TV right now...

The U.K. version (formatted for U.S. DVD players) came out four days ago in the U.S. It is awesome. It does not have the pilot. That has to be bought seperately, and has been out for a few months. Only thirteen episodes. It does also come with a special preview disc for the new film Serenity by Joss Whedon.

As for the comments near the beginning of this thread about Wal-Mart selling edited movies, not true. Just check out movies like Eyes Wide Shut, and Not Another Teen Movie(of which the unrated director's cut was just released) and you will see that it is not the case.
