I Just Bought (DVD)

Whole 10 Yards
Hellboy
Shaun of the Dead
Jeff Buckley Grace Legacy Edition (with DVD)
Damien Rice Cannoball (With DVD Interview)
Kingdom Hospital (Stephen King TV Series)

Picked up a couple today to replace my worn out VCR copies.

SHOOT TO KILL: A great movie with Tom Berenger and Sidnet Poitier. A chase movie set in the wilderness.

CONAN THE BARBARIAN: Collector's Edition. Great special features in this set. Plus, one of my favorite Arnold movies. Extremely rewatchable.

Ghost in the Shell and Patlabor (2 disc set)

Just yesterday we took some DVDs out of our collection - we don't have enough shelf room anymore. But it did not help at all.

The Star Wars trilogy is due out soon, and is on preorder...

Magnolia (which I'm still getting my head around)
Haven't seen it myself but from what I've heard you're not likely to get your head around it unless you are a 'chic' , hence the 'chic flick' tag :D

I don't think I'd label Magnolia as chick flick to be honest. It's a little too deep for that, covering topics such as death, estrangement and longing. It's not easy to categorise due to its uniqueness, but it has more in common with depressing films such as Requiem for a Dream than popcorn no-brainers such as Legally Blonde, Never Been Kissed, Bridget Jones etc IMHO.

I bought:

Jackie Brown. Kill Bill got me in the Tarantino mood, and this one I've only seen once.

Man on Fire: I'm a big Denzel fan, with Training Day and Crimson Tide, two of my favs. I haven't watched this movie yet, but it looks good, based on the trailer. Plus, Tony Scott has always impressed me. Not as much as his brother Ridley, but more than most.

Came home today with:

Star Wars Box Set

Final Destination

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

&

Goodfellas SE

On the weekend I picked up:
Groundhog Day
Van Wilder: Party Liaison
The Usual Suspects
X Men 2
Bowfinger

Resident Evil 1 (Just to see if it was as bad as I thought it could be - and I was not surprised there :) ) and Millennium Series 2, which I'm really looking forward to. (The Star Wars set arrived last week).

Hobbit

I'm a little jealous, Hobbit.

Millinneum Season 2 doesn't come out here for the foreseeable future.

I'm going to have to look at getting a multi region player - I really want those Millenium sets, but can't see them coming out here any time soon (as far as I can work out)

Agh - sorry all, that was NOT intended to rub people's noses in it...

I know it's been mentioned in the Millennium thread though. Season 3 should be out in time for Halloween here... and then there's a nice box set of the lot just in time for Christmas...

Eventine - yes, I eventually succumbed to the lure of the multiregion DVD player - simply because there's so much stuff in the US that hasn't been released (or is unlikely to be released) here.... I got the Original Outer Limits series for example from the US that has never had a full proper showing in the UK.

Would recommend the player if you can afford it (though they do seem very very cheap now!).

Hobbit

Speaking of things being released. Several people have mentioned Shaun of the Dead so I went to the store and was not able to get it. They also couldn't find it on their computer system.

I just tried Amazon's DVD catalog and it has no info about purchasing it but asks me to put in my zip code to find a showing near me. Is it still in theatres in the US, or can you buy a DVD or VHS yet ?

Shaun of the Dead just opened up in the theaters in the US, last week.

Shaun of the Dead is sooo cool! I am going to buy the DVD soon.

Last week I bought the Star Wars DVD box - the German one, so it got both the original and the German dubbing (which is cool, since it was a long time before I saw any other version than the German one :) ); and it is widescreen - as far as I know we don't have a fullscreen version. (We generally don't have full or widescreen editions of one DVD - it's mostly widescreen.)

Today two other box sets arrived: Ninja Scroll (10th Anniversary Edition) and Macros Plus.

About multiregional players: we bought our DVD player more than five years ago and decided that we needed a code-free one right from the start. So I do have some Code 1 DVDs (like my precious Court Jester) but for the last year we mostly are able to buy Code 2 UK DVDs if the German editions aren't as good or come out much later . . . Good sources for us are play.com and playUSA.

:)

I dreamt, briefly, of getting the Farscape boxed sets. Then the $400+ involved made me rethink.

Someone mentioned Farscape? ;)

Since I have the first two seasons (five two disc sets each), I always wanted to go on buying the third and fourth season too. But then the better box sets came out - with audio commentary etc. So now I am waiting for the third season box which comes out on October 18th. :D
