This THREAD in the Fantasy Forum is very popular, so I thought I'd start one in the Science Fiction Forum.

I suppose similar guidelines should apply, i.e. as this is in the Science Fiction Forum, try and stick to Science Fiction books .

I just bought:
The Dreaming Jewels by Theodore Sturgeon
London, UK: Corgi Books, 1950, reprinted 1971. Mass market paperback. Secondhand.

The Dreaming Jewels

Creepy, I just ordered the same book. I'm interested to see how it stacks up against some of Sturgeon's more popular work. All the reviews I've read either say "it's wonderful", or "it could be wonderful, but it's got some major flaws". I guess I'll just have to wait and see for myself.

It's very good. Not quite as good as More Than Human or Venus Plus X, but they're truely excellent novels. I think from memory it got a 3.5-4/5 on the emohawk scale.

I just had a momentary lapse of reason (someone should make an album called that ) and had a bit of a book binge which I probably shouldn't have - but hey, you only live once (unless you're a soap opera character).

I am here to post about my recent book purchases - does one need to join a chain marriage to do so on the SF side ?

I generally just buy a book here and there as need calls. But today I got lucky at my local Library bookstore (they sell used, donated books to raise money for the local library). I like shopping there because sometimes I get lucky and I can feel good about my purchase!

Today I got The Fionavar Tapestry books by G.G. Kay, all 3 in trade ppb. I also picked up the 1st Ed. HBs of Cherryh's novels Heavy Time and Hellburner. All for the low, low price of U.S. $15.50. I know Kay is fantasy, but I really liked Tigana, so I am looking forward to trying out this trilogy. I am a bit dubious for the Cherryh books, but since I liked Downbelow Station and Cyteen, I am willing to give them a shot, despite the lack of good publicity.

I have no intention of ever getting married again, but I am free for concubine services.

Just went nuts again on amazon and ordered a bunch of the SF Masterworks books.

The SF Masterworks series should be a must for every SF fan. The first SF book I ever bought was about 4 years ago from the Masterworks series (The War of the Worlds & The Time Machine) and now I have all of them plus about 450 other SFF books. If I'd never picked up that first one and been induced to pick up more from the series I doubt I'd be the SFF devourer I am today.

I recently managed to finish collecting all the current SFM hard and softbacks. The last to arrive, Silverberg's Downward to the Earth, is going well at the moment.
