Ringworld has been available as a hardback under the SF Masterworks banner for some time, Emo.
Yeah, but this is in the paperback line with new cover art. The cover art for Dying Inside is really nice. Much better than the awful recent iBooks edition. They haven't got an image for Mission of Gravity yet, but it has to be better than the boring bright-yellow Gollancz SF Collector's edition I have currently.

Isn't PKD's Maze of Death one of the next due to be released under SFM?
I really hope not. PKD is waaaay too over represented in the SFM line. To date, of the 57 in the paperback line 11 are PKD titles and the next most represented author (Frederick Pohl) only comes in at 3.5 titles. Don't get me wrong, I like PKD, but I can't help but think that there are much more deserving titles to join the ranks than to continue on with this PKD love-fest.

Is that a Chris Moore cover? If it is, I hope he’s slipping a few dollars in Mark Suligowski’s direction. :D

You’re right about the disproportionately high number of PKD titles in the collection. However, I think there might be some element of “leveling-up” afoot here. If I recall correctly, PKD doesn’t get much of a mention in the Collector’s editions, whereas other authors such as Silverberg, Sladek and Haldeman do quite well.

I just bought Spin State by Chris Moriarty and Wyrmhole by Jay Caselberg.

Well, I went out for City of Pearl since it looks like the book club and you folks are raving about it. So I'll put that in the queue to be read.

I just bought To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis. I really, really liked Doomsday Book (I kept lending it out until someone kept it), I hope this one is as good.

I've had that one on the shelf for ages, but for some reason I've still to pick it up. Perhaps I'm turned off by the somewhat dreary cover.

I loved Doomsday Book too. To Say Nothing of the Dog is better, also very different. It is one of the few books that would rate an actual 10 (out of 1-10).

OK, wow. If Ficus rates something a 10, I think I need to hit Amazon directly after logging off this site! :D (I just finished reading "Doomsday Book" also, and was again completely blown away, just like I was after reading "Passage." I seriously need to read everything she's ever written :D )

On topic, I was at Barnes & Noble and they seem to be blowing out a lot of inventory now that it's the new year, so I was about to find massively marked down copies of "Let's All Kill Constance" by Ray Bradbury & "The Wanderers" by Fritz Leiber. The Leiber book is the first time I've ever seen a Gollanz (sp?) Masterworks book for sale where I am. Go figure.

You can't judge a book by its cover, but you can sell it with one. I am a victim of the same circumstance. The cover isn't all that great, if I had not read the author before I wouldn't have looked at it twice.

You might consider cutting the cover off, then you can read with impunity. OTH, someone will think you stole the book.

And, shhhhh, I'm reading.

Of course when I read it I had no expectations. It was one of my RL SF group reads that someone else had picked. I never would have picked it up otherwise. Not only the cover, but just the name of the book put me off. So hopefully you won't have the reverse reaction -- high expectations and a let down. ;)

Yes, Gollanz is selling a select number of books here in the US. You don't see them very often but there are a few. Of course they stick out like sore thumbs. :)

Newton's Wake, Ken MacLeod

The Inverted World, Christopher Priest

I'm really looking forward to Newton's Wake, and The Inverted World was recommended by someone here during a discussion of Flatland.

I just bought Newton's Wake as well, and I'm hoping it's going to be Macleod's best yet :D

From the Amazon reviews it doesn't look promising.

I didn't think to look through them, but then I have read a lot of Macleod's work and liked it, whilst some people hated it. The reviews tend to be quite mixed, from what I've seen in the past. I'll have to wait and see...

I saw the reviews on amazon also, but people in this forum I've talked to have really enjoyed it. That's good enough for me. :D

Major update: I just got my amazon credit card approved woohoo! The way I figure it, if I'd just gotten it 5 years ago I'd probably have earned enough points for $1000 in free books :D Hmmm, I wonder if I could convert my daughter's room into a library when she leaves for college in the fall......

I have Violet Eyes and am excited to read it soon. I really enjoyed Time Traveler's Wife, as did FicusFan I believe. You might want to run a search of the forum for comments on the titles.

Part of my bi-yearly or so splurge on amazon.com came through today.
