If you need a boost back into fantasy and have not done as follows I highly recommend it. Kaleidoscope, The Illustrated Man, Ray Bradbury. There are many others in their worth your time. When you need a new read, only go to The Eye of the World. There is plenty in The Wheel of Time, it is unending really. You could always give The Kingkiller books a try and would find no disappointment there.

Given Kat's analysis of your reading preferences, there may be some mileage in giving historical fiction or science fiction a whirl, if you haven't already.

In both there's a fair bit of grim dark stuff featuring epic battles. Certainly there's some top quality long published series in historical fiction by authors such as Patrick O'Brian, C S Forester, Alexander Kent, Bernard Cornwell, etc.
